Washta Mayor Shot by Arrested Suspect in Iowa Mob Incident
Mayor John Bunn of Washta Iowa was shot while attempting to arrest Harry Thompson a well digger for disorderly conduct. Thompson resisted and fled before returning to shoot the mayor in the neck. A mob of about 100 men tried to lynch Thompson but Sheriff Hogan moved the suspect onto a departing train and escaped.

Telegram from J Jorgensen explains he lost 1225 dollars while boarding at Minneapolis Winton station. He had money to buy a North Dakota farm and suspects two suspicious passengers. Brakeman recalls two men boarding with him and Jorgensen was jostled at Union Station waiting room before his train.

Fire Hits School for Deaf in Dormitory
Fire at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs yesterday morning nearly destroyed the second floor of the manual training building used as a boys dormitory. The city fire department controlled the blaze. one person was in the building but escaped uninjured. Superintendent Robert estimated a $4,000 loss, not expected to disrupt school work.

Ames April 16 The farm mechanics department at Iowa State College was formally installed with substantial machinery donated by manufacturers for experimental and classroom use. Plans include windmill powered tests to compare outputs, road work experiments funded by state legislature, and a June good roads convention to train road supervisors. Experimental work will begin as equipment arrives.

Pensacola April 14 Captain William Cowles of the battleship Missouri led a rescue in the powder explosion that killed twenty nine and wounded five, flooding the handling room and magazine with water to avert total destruction. Lieutenant Hammer and others aided in extracting wounded men as fires raged and the brasswork melted.
