The Iowa legislature provides a $20 monthly pension to surviving members of the North Iowa Brigade, formed in 1862 to defend settlers from Indians. Only a few veterans remain in specific counties, with Lewis H. Smith, A. J. Jones, J. P. Crowley, and R. Jackman listed among the last survivors. The piece also mentions Jess Willard’s boastful bid for notoriety and a jab at his status versus Roosevelt and Bryan after defeating Jack Johnson.

M L King who was slated to speak in Algona on March 23 will deliver his lecture on farm buildings next Saturday April 21 at 2 30 p m in the court room of the courthouse. Wellendorf and Son announce their new Duroc Jersey boar Orion Cherry King V, described as the largest and finest for his age west of the Mississippi. Purchased in Ohio for 1200 dollars, he is a half brother to the Worlds Grand Champion boar and touted as possibly superior. Also note: Lost Auto No 199865, please leave at the office.
