A Milwaukee and St. Louis depot safe in Spencer Iowa was blown open by a drill and nitro glycerin charge Wednesday evening. About $2 in pennies remained, robbers unknown, neighbors heard the blast but saw no one. Authorities suspect professional operatives.
Judge Reed of the United States district court in the northern district buys the private library of retired Judge Shiras in Dubuque. The library is described as the finest private collection in the state. The sale signals Shiras plans to retire from active legal work while Reed will keep Cresco as his home and not move to Dubuque.
Clintin Ia September report of Ruth Harrington a 16 year old girl stricken with left side paresis then apparently recovered only to fall into a deep coma lasting ten days. She slept heavily showed signs of communication before awakening suddenly and has since returned to good health according to physicians notes.
Beav er Creek stock farm on N A Lind property two miles north of Rolfe Iowa suffered the worst fire in Pocahontas County history. Four barns and fifty two registered Short horn cattle were destroyed with an estimated loss between 30000 and 49000 dollars. About half of the value is insured chiefly with Pocahontas County Mutual. The blaze was discovered while all four buildings were ablaze and Lind touted one of the finest Short horn herds in the region. One notable animal, a wild white bull, had a $3000 price tag but remained unsold.
Mrs Siege performs a heroic rescue amid cheers as she dashes into smoke to save her two children. She finds her 4 year old Mose still inside, carries him to safety with onlookers numbering over 160 men applauding. Mary, her older daughter, helped by coming down as she ascended.
Davenport sheriff Captures principals in prize fight last week. Kid Ammer man and Kid Bane are jailed. Sheriff McArthur also arrested Buck Timothy, Henry Kichner and John Bryseh, promoters of the event.

Des Moines Iowa September 10 Governor Cummins denied clemency for murderers Louis Busse and Joseph Smith and set their hanging dates for April 26 and April 13 respectively. He issued death warrants to county sheriffs and postponed dates until after legislative adjournment, stating clemency applications are pardons to be referred to the legislature. There has been a decade without a hanging in Iowa.
Sept. 1 report shows pardon secretary opened seventy seven envelopes of protest letters for Josephine Wilson who is serving a five year sentence at Anamosa for operating a house of prostitution. Wilson, deemed one of Town’s most beautiful women, has completed nine months of her term.
Arthur Webb aged 22 shot and killed Jeanette Derby aged 3 in a Muscatine area school house after she refused to go to the fair. He then killed himself outside the building. Miss Derby is described as the daughter of a prosperous farmer. Lily Kaplon aged 4 in Cedar Rapids died after her clothing caught fire while playing with matches.
A Missouri woman formerly represented by Mrs. S. W. Sorenson dismissed her suit against Logan attorney George W. Egan for criminal assault. She alleges the charges were false and that she was forced to sign the original petition, through her next friend.
Des Moines Iowa September 16 A legislative commission recommends a single board of control for the state educational institutions with governor appointing members and senate confirmation. The group voted unanimously to proceed and will file a report to the legislature early in winter while keeping details secret.
A large Osage County crowd pursued five murder suspects after the killing of Mrs Maggie Webb in Buxton. The coroner's jury ruled murder without naming the culprits and ordered detention of Fay Carter Sam Russ Clifton Logan Chas Foster and Ray Brown who were with the woman before her death. Officers handcuffed the prisoners and moved them to Os kaloosa for safekeeping amid threats of lynching.
A severe storm dumped one of the season’s heaviest rains across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Homes flooded and reports show Omaha receiving about two inches of rain by early today amid thunder and lightning.
The Iowa conference of the African Methodist church adjourned as bishops and ministers began travel to other state sessions. Appointments list presiding elders and ministers by district including Jowa District G W Jones in St Louis and G W Lewis in Davenport, with numerous churches named and evangelists listed.

In LeMars Iowa the Prairie club and the Elks club shut down after the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors ruled any liquor sold in the clubs would require a $600 saloon license. Both clubs could not afford the license, ending their operations after 25 years. The Prairie club, rooted in the English immigrant community, and the Elks club had long operated during prohibition without issue until now.
General George W. Seevers of the Minneapolis and St. Louis railroad declares in Des Moines that railroads should avoid politics and not seek or donate to political positions. He says railroads should focus on business and oppose entanglement with city councils legislatures or state offices.
Des Moines Iowa September 16 admission stated Cantillon and Long are out and have not spoken for three days, while Shirley Dexter becomes captain of the Underwriters. Long is a well known ball player in the country and is said to be disgusted with Cantillon and ready to quit the team at any day.
Des Moines Iowa September 4 A disruption during natural philosophy class ended with Miss Anna Morris struck by lightning and knocked unconscious for a hour. Peter Nelson the banner in the lugement was knocked unconscious for four tours. A heavy storm was in progress as pupils dashed water toward their teachers until a physician arrived and could walk to carriage.
Lee Chong a Chinese laundryman in Des Moines was arrested in Cedar Rapids Federal court for failure to show Geary law papers. Officers say Chong was smuggled into the United States via England. He claims birth in Ban Wuastelsen nineteen years ago.
A Chicago Great Western train struck a herd of cattle four miles west of Hampton Iowa on September 15, killing thirteen bulls owned by W. S. Mohr. Forty-four bulls powered the engine, turned out nightly to feed nearby pastures. The herd was crossing the track as the boy led them to the pasture gate, and foggy evening prevented the engineer from stopping in time.
In Harford county a prison inmate Frank Delancey alias Frank Howard died after a lice infection and disinfectant sprayed over his body by physicians' orders. He suffered severe pain and sleeplessness before dying this morning, with officials noting the unusual cause of death.

Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Sac City Indiana husked corn at a canning factory to raise funds. Led by Pastor George M Rourke and the Ladies Aid, church women worked with the support of men until 3 am, generating a good sum before the factory closed.
In Galva Iowa Sept 15 Fenos Balah is held on charges of kidnapping his infant from its mother who had deserted him after birth. The couple wed young, his affections shifted to others and he took the child from its mother to Holstein. A deputy sheriff recovered the infant and returned it to its mother.
LeMars Iowa September 15 Frank Mesxex the young man who stole a horse and harness from the Goebel farm and a buggy from Al Austin in May 194 and who was captured by Sheriff Arendt, indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced to five months in jail, and who skipped out because the sheriff trusted him, was captured near Black Point South Dakota last week by Sheriff Au Phier.
