Des Moines Iowa November reports announce a change in the Register and Leader. Mr Garmer Cowles gains control by purchasing half the property with remaining shares held by Geo Roberts Harvey Engham and Samuel Strauss. Cowles will run daily operations while remaining partners step back. Cowles has a long political record including independence in the house and strong ties to railroad interests, with a noted clash between Cummins and anti Cummins factions in Kossuth County a major political battle tied to the purchase.
