Navy Deserter Captured Near Laurens
Ralph Edward Sheldon, a deserter from the United States ship Indiana, was captured about four miles south of Laurens yesterday. Sheriff Shoemaker of Marshalltown and Marshal Andrew Alderson chased him as he husked corn at August Rowe's farm, then subdued him after a foot chase and handcuffed him. Sheldon deserted the navy on May 17, 1902, and was being taken toward Norfolk, Virginia.

Permits Savings Departments Rise Across Banks
Des Moines Nov 3 Attorney General Mullan says banks may form savings departments with their banking business and individuals partnerships and private corporations may engage in savings banking. Restrictions come only from Iowa Code section 1859 which bans advertising the terms with those words. The opinion interests banking circles as courts have not ruled and several banks in Page County have recently tried to organize such departments. Gets Rural Carriers Three Routes Are Established Out
Des Moines Iowa November 3 Today three rural carriers will start delivery west east and south of the present limits expanding free delivery to all city areas. Residents along these routes must provide government approved rural delivery boxes placed at roadside to allow easy mail exchange with carriers.
