LeMars April term of district court opened with Judge J F Oliver presiding. Grand jury selected with John J Mohan as foreman. State cases of Cunningham and Pritchelt dismissed. Peter Peterson 's case dismissed though he was present at the scene. Steffen and Beaver serving eight and four years at Anamosa for the killing of John Jensen a year ago. The grand jury considers other criminal matters.

New York May 1 plans for Baldwin Zeigier auxiliary Arctic expedition have been completed. The Frithjof and America will sail from Tromsö to Camp Zeigler on Alger Island to recover Baldwin and secure last instructions. William Champ leads the party with experience in the Arctic and will sail May 23, aiming to meet Baldwin near Franz Josef land by mid June. A patrol will then be established to cover 160 miles along the likely route.

Des Moines reports Herman and Henry Myers, arrested for murdering Frank Lavelleur, placing his body in a barn and burning the building, have been freed. Another suspect to be arrested tonight. Mrs Lavelleur testified before the coroner's jury after returning from her husband’s funeral, fainting when told of the skull fracture and dismembered body.
Joseph McCrary, serving a life term for a Mills County murder, was paroled from Des Moines penitentiary. Governor Cummins protested after discovering that $1000 of his own savings, saved during imprisonment, was used to secure the parole by ex Attorney General Stone and Judge Lewis.
