W Parkhurst Wilson of 208 North Sixth Street learns from a letter from Streator Illinois that his first wife may never have obtained a divorce, making his second marriage potentially illegal. Howard Hiatt an 18 year old Ottumwa youth died from lockjaw caused by a blank cartridge wound to his right hand July 4. He received no medical care initially and seemed to recover before illness returned Sunday with symptoms of tetanus and his death followed despite treatment.
Onawa hose team members have begun training for the state firemen’s tournament to be held in Sioux City this month. Mrs Geo A Oliver and daughters left Sunday for a Colorado Springs trip. Mrs Ed Selleck and elds arrived home Monday after a eight week Minnesota and South Dakota visit. Mrs Gen G Fotrook and children left Monday for a Sioux Falls visit. Frank Jones, formerly of Onuma but now a printer in Washington DC, arrived home after a weeks absence.
A Moorehead Avenue boy, son of Mr and Mrs Blackman, handled gunpowder found on a porch step and touched a match, causing flames to burn his face and cap. He was treated by Dr Heilman and is expected to recover in about a week.

Washington July 20 The secretary of war approves preliminary arrangements for army maneuvers at Fort Riley Kansas in October involving militia from Kansas Iowa Arkansas and Missouri. Each state to designate one infantry regiment of about 16 men to be brigaded with regular troops under a regular brigadier. The contingent at Fort Riley to be larger than last year by at least three regiments.

In carrying out the reduction of the force in the Philippines the secretary of war has directed that three regiments per cavalry and three regiments of infantry be returned to the United States by 500n as transportation is available. Regiments with longest service in the Philippines will be selected. Must Get Busy Again Washington July 20. The secretary of war has directed that all officers on detached duty for four years must return to their regiments or companies.
In Philadelphia July 2, a Maryland woman influences Deputy Immigration Commissioner Hughes to release Peter Doughprey, a 27yearold Irish arrival, by promising marriage and work. He had denied admission due to self support rules but relented after the maid’s charm. Doughprey plans to join her in Elkton.

Pittsburg July 17 The strike at Port Vue tin plate works, which began yesterday, escalates as workers block the McKeesport bridge with planks and try to bar all men from entry. Officials consider deputized help as deputies may be sent to prevent violence amid unionization efforts.
