Old Walsh lines in hands of receiver
Chicago, Aug 22 Myron J Carpenter formerly president of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois railroad today was appointed receiver for the Southern Indiana railway by Federal Judge Kohlsaat. Petitions of intervention were filed by the Chicago Southern railway asking for extension of the receivership to that road. The notes under which the receivership was procured are owned by the First Trust and Savings bank for the account of associated banks. The receivership does not affect Walsh or J R Walsh & Co. The receivership was made to conserve credit and resources amid an industrial low mood. secrecy marked the proceedings as the petition was taken to Kohlsaat’s home to forestall creditors from foreclosing on suits. The Southern Indiana railway was first acquired by John R Walsh as part of expanding his banking interests. The methods used to develop the road and finance other railroads were central to the trial that preceded Walsh’s conviction for misapplying bank funds.
