Des Moines Iowa April Taeper Ma 59a who for thirty five years has been confined in the penitentiary at Anna mesa and who has been a convict longer than any living man in the state is at last to regain his liberty He was sent up from Dallas county for shooting a man in an election quarrel Betsy Smith one of the famous women life prisoners was refused her request She and her daughter were sent up for life from Des Moines years ago for murdering the husband and father as he lay in bed the daughter committed death by own action by eating spiders but Betsy is still at Fort Madison Arman McPherson who shot the marshes at Morning 8in because he thought the officier was withholding his children was also denied a pardon MAYOR HENDERSON OF MARENGO IS INDICTED Merengo In April The indictment on two counts for fraudulent banking of Mayor A M Henderson has created a sensation perc He pleads not guilts it is alleged Henderson while exshier of the Murengo Sayings bank made false entries in the books with intent to deceive the officers of the institution and also made false reports to the officers This is a culmination of the trouble which followed Mr Hendersons dismissal as cashier Later he was reinstated and icied until last March when M F Cox of Des Moines succeeded him The board of directors found it necessary to raise 25000 to meet a deficiency and the matter has been in Irrigation ever since to

Des Moines reports that a wealthy Polk county farmer, Irving, took his own life at his brother in law Jacob Miller’s home near Orilla, ten miles south of Des Moines, citing years of decline from palsy as the motive. He owned 700 acres west of Ankeny and left an estate valued around 100000 dollars.
James Till, a Black man, was captured after a three mile chase with officers in Mason City on April 6. He is accused of stealing diamond rings from a local residence following a fistfight with police.

Sibley April 4. John Wilson a young man formerly near Bigelow was killed at a Omahe railway crossing just south of Bigelow. His buggy and horses were destroyed. He had been visiting Miss Emma Madison at John Paulson Farm and was returning home when the crash occurred. Wilson’s body was taken to Worthington for burial. his parents three brothers and a sister survived.
Waterloo Ga April 4 Royal G Wood an Illinois Central engineer was arrested under state law for placing an obstruction on a street car truck in the recent strike riot warrants are out for five others. The extreme penalty if guilty is life imprisonment.
A telegram from Los Angeles reports the death of Mrs. William J. Haddock in Towa City. Haddock served forty years as assistant secretary of the University at Towa and was the first woman admitted to practice in Iowa courts. She was the widow of Judge Haddock.
Des Moeines aged 74 died April 4. The senate held a long executive session on censuring newspapers for publishing what occurred at executive sessions and decided no action violated propriety. Occultation of Fairfield Iowa men prompts mystery returns. J W Fulton a merchant and brother of the retiring mayor reappears after weeks away. His wife was guardianship of his estate during absence last summer. Fellow Fairfield businessman George Dietz also reappeared. Dietz says his recollections began in hospital in January after a period of poor health. Brain fatigue may explain the two men’s strange behavior.
An almost unique event in Reinheck Ta on April 4 marked the fiftieth anniversary of a double wedding. William Young with June Watson and James Watson with Margaret Young were the principals. Fourteen children attended, all but one present to celebrate the milestone.
Lake View April 4. Clifford Miller aged 14 and Roy Phelps aged 44 ran away from home here. Searches are under way to locate them. Yellow buck nagels of the wild and wooly weed type and cigarets are said to be responsible for their incorrigibility. If caught they will likely be sent to the reform school.
