Food industry profits slide in first half of year

Profits of food manufacturing firms fell 4.5 percent in the first half as costs for raw materials labor and taxes rose, offsetting gains. Dried vegetables slated mostly for military use

The War Food administration says about 95 percent of the dehy drated vegetable output will go to the army navy Red Cross and other non civilian agencies. From an allocable supply of 277 million pounds about 285 million pounds will be sent to military and indirect war service agencies and about 12 million pounds to civilians. Production is expected to rise about 67 percent from 1943.
