Next Monday Election Day Vote Primary Ballot Candidates List

Voters head to the polls next Monday for the primary selecting state congress and county officers. The Democratic slate shows no opposition in this township. the county and statewide races list Republican and Democratic candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, auditor, treasurer, attorney general, agriculture, and other offices, with detailed names and districts. Only township residents outside Alden may vote for clerk, assessor, and trustees under a law enacted since the last primary, prohibiting town residents from these offices.

Fatal freight wreck at Steamboat Rock kills OToole

One man, Chas OToole, 39, a World War I veteran, died after a drawbar failure caused freight cars to crash into the train on the M and St. L railroad near Steamboat Rock. Two companions, Edward Mersh of Cedar Rapids and Ole Bergstad, were slightly injured. OToole was found crushed, with papers showing his service and war risk insurance.

Decoration Day in Alden honors Governor Hammill speech

A large crowd from neighboring towns gathered for Decoration Day in Alden led by Governor Hammill as principal speaker. The 1:20 parade moved to the park for a program of band music, children drills, a male chorus and readings, with Mayor Cady presiding and the Gettysburg Address read by Morton Pickersgill. Cemetery ceremonies by the Legion and Auxiliary decorated the graves of fallen soldiers.

Arrests After Pine Lake Eldora Island Party

Four Marshalltown residents were arrested on Eldora island in Pine Lake by Sheriff Luglan for intoxication and illegal liquor possession after breaking up a wild party. Clyde Ford Edward Matson La Glass and Mrs Myrtle Houghton pled guilty before Justice Tyler. Men fined 100 dollars plus costs, women 5 dollars plus costs. They paid and were released.

Hardin county cooperative shippers plan June 1 meeting in Eldora court room to discuss hog tattooing for a 10c premium from packers for tuberculosis free areas after July 1. Tattoos to mark farms read after slaughter. plan may trace quality and source, aid infection control and provide data to packers and producers. Graduation set at Marquette University June 1928

Alden graduates will attend the Marquette University commencement in Milwaukee Wisconsin with Lyle M Palmer among the candidates for degrees. Palmer, a senior in the college of journalism, will receive a bachelor of science. The program runs June 3 to 6 with events at Gesu church and the Milwaukee Auditorium.
