Fatal freight wreck at Steamboat Rock kills OToole
One man, Chas OToole, 39, a World War I veteran, died after a drawbar failure caused freight cars to crash into the train on the M and St. L railroad near Steamboat Rock. Two companions, Edward Mersh of Cedar Rapids and Ole Bergstad, were slightly injured. OToole was found crushed, with papers showing his service and war risk insurance.

A large crowd from neighboring towns gathered for Decoration Day in Alden led by Governor Hammill as principal speaker. The 1:20 parade moved to the park for a program of band music, children drills, a male chorus and readings, with Mayor Cady presiding and the Gettysburg Address read by Morton Pickersgill. Arrests After Pine Lake Eldora Island Party
Four Marshalltown residents were arrested on Eldora island in Pine Lake by Sheriff Luglan for intoxication and illegal liquor possession after breaking up a wild party.
