Alden High School 1918 Graduation Honors Ten Members

Last Friday at Congregational Church Alden High School held its twenty sixth graduation with ten seniors nine girls and one boy The ceremony featured music by Mrs Siedenburgh and Miss Granzow and an address by Z C Thornburg Superintendent of Des Moines schools The board awarded diplomas to ten students led by Edward Miller who enlisted in the aviation service The program included a history of the class and a brief Alden school history from 1856 to present noting growth and milestones

Storm scene reports damage across five townships in Alden region

Visit to the storm area describes a diagonal twenty rod wide devastation across five townships. The center nearest Alden was twelve miles away with torrential rain and widespread wreckage. Myers farm buildings and wind break structures were scattered. a six person cellar shelter survived, a tractor helps clear debris, and volunteers from Industrial school and farmers rush to rebuild.

Methodist Church Honors Fallen Soldiers in Weekend Services

A large Sunday service honored fallen heroes as 310,000 remain. Rev E M Evans delivered a message about army life, a sizable offering was collected for religious work in the camps, and parishioners were urged to contribute. Services will occur at the usual times next Sunday with a call for full attendance.

Ruth Clifford narrates brutal scenes of German atrocities during their Belgium advance as Captain Von Hancke assaults a girl while her father is killed and a Belgian maiden dies, depicted in a sensational film portrayal of the Kaiser. The Buckeye theater shows The Kaiser, the Beast of Berlin on Tuesday June 11.

Red Cross Drive Reports Mixed Town Country Pledge Totals

Five month pledge card results show 256 cards in town and country with 661.25 dollars paid. Alden Branch expected to tap around 1600 dollars overall as districts respond promptly under Coxs leadership. New junior memberships added and materials secured for ongoing work.

The annual meeting reported the past year's business exceeding $440,000 in volume and a very encouraging financial condition. Officers for the coming year were elected: President G. W.
