Patriotic Red Cross Meeting Promises War Zone Insight

A Red Cross mass meeting will be held Friday afternoon in Iowa Falls with Dr. R Q Matthews of Des Moines First Methodist Church addressing. He recently returned from six months in France and Flanders. A similar Alden church event follows at eight. Admission is free. The Iowa Falls High School glee club and orchestra provide music.

A Buckley Mil man showed a German flag on his 400 acre farm and refused to remove it. Government officials jailed him, sent him to Washington, then back to Germany with $15, never to return. He had made his fortune here before his expulsion.

Primary Ballot Shifts as Democrats Seek Vacant Seats

Nomination papers for county offices were due May 4 with few Democratic names filed. The GOP slate includes A W Mitterer and W L King for Representative, Calvin Boylan for Auditor, O M Barnes for Treasurer, G E Edwards and Chas Scurry for Clerk of Courts, A D Pettenger and Dan Strickler for Sheriff, Chas A Norris and A Doud for Recorder, W R Williams for Attorney, and E W Wolfe with C G Wiemer for Supervisors plus M S Carpenter for 1920. Congregational Church Announces Red Cross Sunday Collection

The Sunday school collection next Sunday will go to the Red Cross. The sermon topic next Sunday morning is The Folks Behind the Men Behind the Guns. The high school graduation sermon will be in the M B E church Sunday evening, so no service at our church. Kenneth Ingebretson, six, fell from a pony onto a tank breaking the collar bone. he was taken to Iowa Falls for treatment and is recovering.

Iowa Coal Storing Advice From State Fuel Official

R H Holbrook urges Iowa households to store low lump coal safely in dry basements with a cement floor. He notes soft or bituminous coal can be stored if precautions are followed, including removing old coal, keeping coal dry, avoiding contact with chimneys or heating pipes, and storing slack separately.
