Two years after Pearl Harbor US air and sea forces struck the Japanese bases at Truk in the Carolines with hundreds of carrier planes backed by a battleship cruiser destroyer armada. Long range Liberators also bombarded Ponape as Marines pressed operations in the Marshall and Solomons campaigns including Bougainville and Choiseul.
Only farmers who can produce 16 war units yearly will stay eligible for agricultural deferment. About 1.7 million farmers deemed essential will be moved to 2-C with six month deferments, and cases reopened later. City deferrals end, industrial deferments tighten, and farm worker cases follow broader draft rules amid demand for 1,000,000 more troops by July 1.
