J Eb Johns was in Minneapolis on business Saturday while E A Anderson returned from Des Moines where he was hospitalized. The community saw many visits, calls, and gatherings including K P dance in Iowa Falls and an oyster supper by the Ladies Aid. Several residents attended events in Dows, Highmore, and Gilmore City, with updates on illnesses, new housekeeping, and church activities.

The Diamond Beetle of Bravil Sparkles with Interference Colors

An American naturalist studying Bravil reports the diamond beetle displays brilliant colors not from pigment but from light interference. The beetle’s diamond teeth sides show two thin layers with a tiny gap, causing colors similar to thin plates on a bubble.

Dr Grua of Radcliffe made a service call nearby last Sunday. Mrs Hattie Lister of Iowa Talla spent Thursday with her sister Mrs Wildman. Vera and Reba Kellogg stayed at the parental home while L P Winter Emil Lettow Ord Ridout and C S Wildman shipped hogs to Chicago last Saturday.

Dist No 2 pupils off for flu related vacation

The pupils in Dist No 2 had a vacation on Monday and Tuesday due to their teacher's flu. Miss Lucille Larsen attended a girls' short course at Ames last week with Mrs. Oscar Klein accompanying her. Sam Benshoof died Sunday morning February 4 at his Alden home after a life of amiable deeds. Funeral services were in the Congregational church led by former pastor Rev Newell with burial at Buckeye cemetery.
