FasAy Contest Promotes Iowa Local History Essays

An essay contest for Iowa high school pupils is organized by the Iowa Federation of Women’s Clubs with the State Historical Society of Iowa offering $1000 in prizes. Death of W A Wilkinson Reported at Age Near Eighty Two

Pioneer resident W A Wilkinson died of heart failure at home in Williams County aged nearly eighty two. Funeral services Friday at 2 PM from home with interment beside his wife at the local cemetery. Survived by son Jardine and daughter Mann Watson, with services noting relatives in California and Missouri. Also reported is a separate auto accident on the Ambo trail west of Tat W corner Friday night with no names released.

School News Humorous and dramatic class contests at high school

The preliminary humorous class judged by Mrs. Urmson Miss Zella Kighme and Rev. Caskey featured songs skits and scenes with winners Bessie Idso Lucille Larsen Jannett Harms and Myra Thompson. The dramatic class judged by Miss Zighme and others included entries such as Strongheart The Stepmother Tess of the Storm Country and Pro Patria with winners Hattie Lettow Hazel Kreamer Hortense Ingelking and Carol Stebe. Harold Sharar from White SD started 9th grade. several absences noted. Christmas vacation begins Dec 21 and health poster prizes listed.

M r Olson county agent of this county for four years has accepted a farm agent post for Cerro Gordo county and will move to Mason City February 1 to assume duties. He was chosen from ten applicants and signed a two year contract. A. H. Veline Claude Hauser and Ralph Clampitt named by the farm bureau to select his successor. His promotion includes a substantial increase in salary and friends honor his advancement while regretting his departure.

Christmas Seals Authorized in Post Office Lobbies

Fatal headon crash south of Loch Falls claims Hovey life

A Dodge driven by I C Henningson collided head on with a Mason City-Des Moines bus four miles south of Iowa Falls last Friday evening. Mrs Hovey, 75, mother of Mrs Henningson, died about eighteen hours later from chest injuries. The Henningson party returned from Eldora. none aboard the bus were hurt.

November Cow Test Report Shows Higher Fat Production

Hardin County Cow Test Association records for November show average fat gains of 1.1 lbs amid 622 lbs of milk from 318 cows. Top herd honor goes to Roy N. Finster of Eldora with 1,232 lbs milk and 449 lbs fat from eight Holsteins. other leaders include Mrs. Edwin Mason Union and Chas. A. Mark Iowa Falls. Finster’s Countess Jewel Korndyke produced 1953 lbs milk and 66.4 lbs fat. Additional notes cover breeding purchases by Union breeders and J. N. Dog License Changes Here But No Licenses Issued

The county will not issue dog licenses this year though owners must buy tags. Applications are at the county auditor or Alden banks, with banks aiding tax collection. Tags differ in shape and date. male dogs pay $1, females $3. All dogs six months old by January 15 require tags. Tags overdue after May 1 may be outlawed or destroyed.
