Boys and Girls Clubs at Hardin County Fair and State Entries

The Hardin county tuberculosis eradication drive is reported as progressing with township petition signings led by Chas Mark and Emil Lettow. State Tax Levy Boosted by Executive Council

The executive council raised the state tax levy to 11.50 mills including 1.81 mills for the soldier bonus, up from 11.26 mills in 1922, with a separate 10.19 mills excluding the bonus. The bonus levy was reduced from 2 to 1.81 mills, while the nonbonus rate rose from 9.11 to 10.19 mills. The total taxable property value was set at 4,428,319,63 with exemptions for soldiers and widows. The computation shows next year's value about 1,095,326,810, up about 16,000 from 1922.

State Fair Opens With New Attractions and Grand Fireworks

The Iowa state fair opens today with a lavish program led by Secretary Corey, claiming the most elaborate schedule yet. Five days of horse racing and two of auto racing headline the events, with purses exceeding 17000 dollars and entries expected from over 200 trotting and pacing horses. Nightly fireworks titled India will unfold on a 500 foot outdoor stage before the grand stand, featuring 500 costumed performers and trained elephants. Farm Values Unchanged Says State Council Official

Secretary Ramsay states the impression that the state executive council raised farm land equalized values and taxes in the past two years is erroneous. No change in farm land values has occurred for about four years. Some counties with low assessments were raised to the equalized base while livestock and personal property declined.
