Jeffersonians Organize to Defeat Roosevelt in 1936
In Detroit, a coalition of thirty or more Democratic figures from twenty states formed the National Jeffersonian Democrats. They named James A. Reed of Missouri as national chairman, planned headquarters in St Louis, and pledged a 1500 word platform opposing Roosevelt and urging loyalty to the party’s pre New Deal stance. Several signers openly support the Republican candidate.
