Prominent Businessman Walter Jurgensen Dies Suddenly
Walter Thomas Jurgensen, a longtime Alden entrepreneur, died suddenly Saturday evening after a career spanning Macon Missouri Cedar Rapids and Alden. Born March 2 1876 in Macon he built a thriving local business with wife Angie Treat since 1914. He served on the town council advanced road work and founded Aldens first successful fire alarm system. A veteran of the Spanish American War and organizer of home guard efforts in World War I, he was remembered as a candid public spirit and steadfast booster to the community.

Robert Tramilton of Alden area sold a nine head string of Hereford steers at Chiccaro market for 10.60 top price. The cattle, fed for nine months, averaged about 1000 pounds. Most buyers were from New York trade with some Canadians from Ontario and a few from St. Paul. The deal yielded about a $1.35 per head margin.
