Hardin County Girls and Boys Picnic Planned
On August 9 Hardin County boys and girls clubs hold their first annual picnic at Rough Woods Lesle Sheldon grove six miles west of Eldora. The event runs 10 30 a m with Girls and Livestock Club programs in forenoon and afternoon. Miss Josephine Arnquist state leader and Prof Quaife will speak on clubs and livestock.

Evangelical Church Picnic Plans and August Program
Everything is ready for the League and Sunday school picnic at Islewild. Those with cars should meet at the church at 11 to provide a ride for everyone. Ice cream and lemonade will be served and readers are asked to bring well filled baskets. The League regrets not showing Home Missions slides last Sunday and plans to present them on August 20. On August 18 a Mission festival will be held at Hubbard, to which the congregation is invited. Farewell for Pastor Wuebben Leaves Alden
Rev. P G Wuebben preached his farewell sermon last Sunday and on Tuesday left with his family for a new pastorate at Griswold with a substantial salary increase. The congregation honored him with a farewell reception Thursday night after five and a half years in Alden, presenting silver utensils and a purse. Many friends regret the departure and wish them success in the new field of labor.

Automobiles Recovered From Missouri River Sinkings

Off For Fort Snelling Training Camp

Public service is scheduled for next Sunday at 11 o'clock with the pastor presiding and Sunday school at 10. The D W C picnic Wednesday was well attended and enjoyed by all. The pastor returned from a two week visit with relatives in Lincoln Nebraska. Frequent rains this summer and the current heat are causing a bumper corn crop locally.

St Pauls Evangel Lutheran marked the Missouri Synod diamond jubilee in a Hubbard grove. Speakers included Revs Beer Latimer Schwidder Wall Lake Baumann Aurelia Koenig Webster City. Gravel road contracts let across Hardin county
Hardin county supervisors awarded H W Emery a gravel supply contract at 30 cents per cubic yard to cover 5490 yards for a 3.66 mile road from east of Eldora to Iowa Falls. Bids were sought to haul gravel for a new road from Rough Woods to Lone Tree and a Glacier Trail project from south of Union to Ackley linking with the Franklin county Y road.

Ex servicemen hike from Yonkers to attend veterans’ convention
Ernest Lancaster, of the 806th machine gun battalion, 77th division, and James McCormick, of the Second Army Corps first division, traveled on foot from Yonkers to Seattle to attend a disabled veterans convention. They spent fifteen months and a year and a half overseas, both wounded, one badly gassed, and pass through Alden last Thursday making most of the journey on foot while accepting rides when offered for health reasons.
