Landlords and Tenants Meet in Eldora August 14

Hardin County farmers face growing tenant share as land prices and rents rise. The Hardin County Farm Bureau organizes a 1:30 p.m. August 14 meeting in Eldora with Galloway from extension service to craft equitable leases and improve tenancy relations for landlords and tenants.

Hardin County Girls and Boys Picnic Planned

On August 9 Hardin County boys and girls clubs hold their first annual picnic at Rough Woods Lesle Sheldon grove six miles west of Eldora. The event runs 10 30 a m with Girls and Livestock Club programs in forenoon and afternoon. Miss Josephine Arnquist state leader and Prof Quaife will speak on clubs and livestock.

Due to conditions no collection drive was conducted, but it is now suggested that delinquents liquidate at least part of the debt if full payment is not possible. Evangelical Church Picnic Plans and August Program

Everything is ready for the League and Sunday school picnic at Islewild. Those with cars should meet at the church at 11 to provide a ride for everyone. Ice cream and lemonade will be served and readers are asked to bring well filled baskets. The League regrets not showing Home Missions slides last Sunday and plans to present them on August 20. On August 18 a Mission festival will be held at Hubbard, to which the congregation is invited. The League meets Wednesday evening August 9 at Mrs. Antje Briese home with a program including Amanda Tresmer paper One of the Disciples Lois Rasmussen Lizzie Lettow Evert Briese Herman Lettow Elma Rassmusson Lillian Peters and committee Christine Weintroth Hattie Lettow Lois Rasmussion. Farewell for Pastor Wuebben Leaves Alden

Rev. P G Wuebben preached his farewell sermon last Sunday and on Tuesday left with his family for a new pastorate at Griswold with a substantial salary increase. The congregation honored him with a farewell reception Thursday night after five and a half years in Alden, presenting silver utensils and a purse. Many friends regret the departure and wish them success in the new field of labor.

Automobiles Recovered From Missouri River Sinkings

Divers hired by insurance companies retrieved five cars from the Missouri River south of Council Bluffs, including two Fords a Buick a Chevrolet and an Elkhart. The boats used a New York company map to locate presumed stolen vehicles sunk for insurance. Most cars lacked identification numbers and near a remote bank habitat, making recovery urgent before deeper sediment.

The Hardin County Red Cross report for year ending June 30, 1922 notes a small treasury balance due to limited public interest. Nurse Ruth Hager has left for Red Cross work in Marshalltown leaving Eldora without a nurse. Extend Water Mains Bids Sought by Council

The council advertises for bids to lay additional water mains starting at the Sharar corner and running one block south and east from several corners including John Urmson and 1.8. Cox. Bids will be opened and contracts let on the 14th inst. Times ads.

The court lists new petitions including Fred Struck seeking to quiet title against David B. Fisher et al in Pleasant township. Dorothy Unger seeks divorce from Clifford Unger with child custody sought. A J Warner sues H W Emery on a promissory note for 1925 plus costs and interest. John D Long brings quieting title action against James A Dowdy over land ownership. Judge Henry Fry of Boone will preside at Eldora court starting Monday Sept 4. many April session cases remain.

Off For Fort Snelling Training Camp

Dwight Sheaffer leaves Monday night for Fort Snelling Minnesota where about 1000 young men will spend a month on government funded military training. The camp will be split into red white and blue sections and Dwight joins the red unit with the youngest men. Congregational Church News and Picnic Report

Public service is scheduled for next Sunday at 11 o'clock with the pastor presiding and Sunday school at 10. The D W C picnic Wednesday was well attended and enjoyed by all. The pastor returned from a two week visit with relatives in Lincoln Nebraska. Frequent rains this summer and the current heat are causing a bumper corn crop locally.

County Woodman Picnic and Evening Initiation Planned

A sizable group plans to attend the Eldora county Woodman picnic next Tuesday. Locals organized a ball team and expect to win one of the cash prizes. A good program has been arranged and in the evening a large class of candidates will be initiated.

Missouri Synod Diamond Jubilee Observed in County

St Pauls Evangel Lutheran marked the Missouri Synod diamond jubilee in a Hubbard grove. Speakers included Revs Beer Latimer Schwidder Wall Lake Baumann Aurelia Koenig Webster City. The Synod, organized 1847 in Chicago, now lists 3415 ministers serving 3905 congregations with vast charitable and educational institutions. Next Sunday Rev Armbacher will deliver his introductory sermon at Alden St Pauls Lutheran at 100 oclock.

Gravel road contracts let across Hardin county

Hardin county supervisors awarded H W Emery a gravel supply contract at 30 cents per cubic yard to cover 5490 yards for a 3.66 mile road from east of Eldora to Iowa Falls. Bids were sought to haul gravel for a new road from Rough Woods to Lone Tree and a Glacier Trail project from south of Union to Ackley linking with the Franklin county Y road.

Ex servicemen hike from Yonkers to attend veterans’ convention

Ernest Lancaster, of the 806th machine gun battalion, 77th division, and James McCormick, of the Second Army Corps first division, traveled on foot from Yonkers to Seattle to attend a disabled veterans convention. They spent fifteen months and a year and a half overseas, both wounded, one badly gassed, and pass through Alden last Thursday making most of the journey on foot while accepting rides when offered for health reasons.

Consolidated schools prove success across Iowa

The state reports 68,619 Iowa children educated in consolidated schools in 368 centers with transportation for many pupils. Since 1920 ninety three new schools cost about 10 million dollars. The system is praised for community impact and efficiency, with 34,743 pupils transported daily and a total transport cost of 1.708 million dollars.
