The noted healer Schlatter from St Augustine Plains dies after a long life of controversial acts and reported divine cures. He faced poverty and isolation in his final years but remained a central figure in his public ministry for the last decade.
The Hastings Nebraska dispatch reports the mystery around Francis Schlatter who claimed to be a divine healer. A family album photo labeled Dr. Charles McLean and a note naming David McNaughton as custodian were found, along with advertising material and a Boston trust envelope, indicating the man’s care and ongoing publicity.

He drew thousands to his Third Street headquarters in Templeal as he fasted and laid on hands healing many while later vanishing into the desert near Socorro. Reports claim bleaching bones found in the San Augustine Mountains may be his, while a later self styled pope presides over a Jerusalem colony near San Acacio.
