New York Sept 17 There has been practically no delay in mail collection and distribution in business districts affected by a strike of 300 drivers employed by the New York Mails Postmaster W S Wilcoxsaid the strike did not concern postal officials as long as contractors continued to handle mails regularly and without delay

New York Sept. 7 The legislative life insurance investigating committee pressed the Equitable Life affair as Thomas D. Jordan the former comptroller remains missing and James Hyde another former executive is to testify. The Mutual Life inquiry showed it controls several trust companies and deposits substantial funds. Frederick Cromwell said officers bought securities for syndicates and profited from resales though no improper action was noted. The hearing adjourned to morrow.
Denver Sept 7 The Grand Army of the Republic thirty-ninth annual encampment opened with an invocation by Chaplain in Chief J H Bradford Address by Governor MacDonald and remarks by Mayor Speer and General George W Cook Commander in Chief King received a diamond badge and all resolutions were referred except one on the death of Slackmar George B Henry of Massachusetts chosen adjutant general The election of officers is set as a special order for tomorrow.
The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic auxiliary held their nineteenth annual convention in Denver. Reports were read, presents given to officers, and nominations opened with voting set for tomorrow. Mrs Ruth K R Peete has no opposition for presidency.
Colonel Anderson, veteran war correspondent for Time and aide on General Hancock’s staff, died after a lingering illness in a hospital. Born about sixty two years ago, he served in the Civil War, reported from the field for Time, and was later appointed assistant adjutant general. He witnessed key actions including Gettysburg and Spotsylvania and continued in journalism postwar.
