The American Alliance for Labor and Democracy adopted a resolution denouncing the People’s Council of America for Democracy and Terms of Peace and other allied groups for not clearly stating war aims. It urged permanent branches nationwide and quick fundraising to organize labor support for government aims. The resolution cites Wilson’s war messages and notes labor leaders see the campaign as a start to stamping out pro German societies.

He waited three months for passage back to the United States due to Dutch shipping restrictions.
Berlin reports in the Risa offensive that more than 7,500 prisoners have been captured and roughly 180 guns seized by German forces. The tally indicates significant material gains in early phases of the operation.
Mayor W. H. Thompson sues the Chicago Herald company and publisher James Keely for 250 000 damages claiming the papers libeled him by attacking his war stance. Sept 6 The Gotha airplanes used by Germany against Basland are described by Georges Vorade as biplanes with two motors totaling 440 horsepower and two tractor propellers. Each craft carries three crew members including pilot bomb thrower and machine gun operator with rapid firing capability.
Twenty farmers from Oklahoma are jailed on charges of disloyalty and conspiring to blow up the Rock Island bridge over Red River south of Terral. Federal authorities say the group, tied to the Working Class union, planned to disrupt army enlistments and mobilization.
The Vandelaincourt court hospital near Verdun was bombarded by German aviators for six and a half hours last night. Nineteen people were killed and twenty six wounded as huts of severely wounded men could not move from their cots. Airplanes flew over the hospital every twenty minutes from 8 30 pm to 3 am.
Amsterdam reports Batock, once a German food dictator, suffered weight loss and shortages amid self-provisioning, stolen parcels, and cards for ordinary citizens. He complained of underfeeding while pushing staff to high workloads before retiring to private life to join a cavalry unit as captain.
Marsh Hale, head of department stores in San Francisco and western cities, is named manager of the Pacific coast division of the Red Cross without pay for the war. The division covers California Nevada and Arizona with 175 000 members and headquarters in San Francisco. Hale’s brothers and partners will run his businesses to allow full Red Cross duty under the decentralization plan.
Washington Sept 6 In a peace speech during the war tax debate Senator Jones of Washington says the nation must conquer the German people and the Imperial government before peace terms. He asserts Germany's loyalty to the kaiser is unmatched and Russia may exit the war by spring. He warns the conflict targets the German people not the Kaiser and calls for full resources.
The president expresses great interest in the equal suffrage campaign in Maine and urges Democrats to back the cause at the upcoming state election. In a September 4 letter to Deborah Knox Livingstone, chair of the Maine suffrage committee, he stresses party pledges favoring state action to grant suffrage.
Dispatches from Glasgow report that Captain Morris of the British steamer Argalla and no American crew members were lost when the ship was sunk. Two non American crewmen were killed in the incident.
