Dispatch from Tiflis reports Tartars terrorizing the southeast Caucasus with levies pouring into Baku Elizabethpol and Shaste. Engagments occur between Tartars and Armenians with many houses destroyed and towns evacuated.
A bolt of lightning struck as 204 people in Richfield gathered for a public event. About half were knocked to the ground and several reportedly injured as horses tied nearby bolted and caused a chaotic scene. Some attendees recovered and returned home, while others remained stunned by the shock.
Report from Cape Charles states the Allan liner Victorian is stranded and not drawing more water since striking. The Victoria remains submerged at high tide while fog and smoke from forest fires disrupt shipping. Montreal vessels and Gulf of St. Lawrence traffic are affected as the Victorian and adjacent ships await recovery.
Lieutenant General Adna Chaffee arrives in Paris with staff and family. French officials from the ministry of war meet him at the station. Brigadier Generals Crozier and Bell join the mission as it heads to army maneuvers set to begin September 9.

Atlanta reports its only yellow fever death with patient J. G. Caruthers arriving from Pensacola last Friday. No additional cases have occurred or are expected, and the illness ended shortly after noon today.
London witnesses the Pielki-Caton marriage as Marshall Pield and Mrs Arthur Caton, of Chicago, unite at noon in St. Margaret's Westminster. Canon Herbert Hensley Henson presided as the church closed to the general public for a small, intimate ceremony.
Inquiries into brutal acts by French Congo officials led to five year imprisonments for MM. Gaud and Teque. The charges cited natives forced to eat a ritual dish of dead relatives and contrived body insertions.
Reports from Chenango and Otsego counties describe extensive flood damage from Sunday. About 160 highway bridges were washed away and many roadbeds ruined, with rural delivery hampered and rail lines inoperable for months. Losses in eastern Chenango and western Otsego run from 15 000 to 100 600 dollars.

Eyewitnesses Sirneet Neill and George Purlong describe millions of tons ejected and slow lava movement. Natives, initially alarmed, reassess threat as surface solidifies and towns remain safe.
Nel Wolfe secretary treasurer of a Philadelphia auto company and Miss Maurie Hamill daughter of a wealthy Germantown manufacturer were hurled 30 feet from a car on a bridge over the West Jersey and Seashore railroad in New Jersey. Hamill died instantly. Wolfe died soon after.
Madrid dispatch reports, despite denials, that King Alfonso is likely to wed Princess Ena of Battenberg, who is niece of King Ferdinand. The note suggests strong probability of the royal match.
At Portsmouth navy yard on September 5 1905 Russia and Japan signed the peace treaty ending the war. Delegates including Baron Komura and Mr Witte exchanged handshakes as the pact was sealed at 3 50 p m amid honors from Marines and officials.
