He noted packers profits limited to 9 percent by food administration, Ford's company earning about 9.5 percent. Sherman cited Ford's pledge to return 29 million dollars from war orders, suggesting it should have come before his senate bid. He accused Ford’s associates of pacifist ties and mentioned Haywood’s imprisonment as contrast to Ford’s political rise.
Professor Meyer who witnessed American reactions to the Lusitania sinking in May 1915 says in the Pan German paper that there was little uproar in the United States at the time.
