The Railroad Labor Board rejects living wage concepts as impracticable. Wharton dissent warns higher rail wages would raise costs and deficits, arguing extending such pay to other industries could trigger a nationwide financial strain. The majority award raises maintenance of way pay by two cents and sets minimums, adding about 20 million to the rail payroll.
Weather notes from Denver on October 1 report Monday and Tuesday as rainy for New Mexico with snow in the north and colder conditions east of the mountains. Arizona shows fair skies Monday with possible snow northeast and rain in southeast areas, then fair and slightly warmer Tuesday.
Somerville Massachusetts October 29 three boys were killed and another fatally injured when a gasoline tank exploded behind Union Safare. Victims included James Dwyer Elmer Leard Edward Fitzgerald of Somerville and Lawrence Alten of Charlestown all about 14. A fifth boy John Brady was seriously injured. The 500 gallon tank had recently been excavated and nearby flames and fumes were blamed on matches.
A. A. Jones, James I. Hinkle, Samuel G. Bratton, Jose A. Bacs, John Morrow, George H. Hunker and other Democrats met in Albuquerque for a weekend rally. They spoke at Torrance county stops and planned later addresses at the high school auditorium as they push toward the November election. The event was led by Henry Coors and faced windy, dusty conditions.
French ambassador Jules Jusserand arrived in New York and stated France will pay its debts, insisting French ships are France’s territory and that wine aboard French vessels is not dangerous. He declined immediate action on the Daugherty dry ruling and said a conference had been held in Paris.

Vladivostok has been made the capital of the Priamur province under a revolutionary committee chaired by M. Surikin. Members include Tvolevich the commander in chief Kolerev the admin chief and Lokianey the railways head. The policy emphasizes rehabilitation of the provincial economy and respect for private property with new industrial and enterprise activity. Surikin is a former Ussoluril railway chief and Uvolevich the 27 year old commander in chief is a trusted army leader.
Raton New Mexico October 29. Reyes Romero about 75 to 80 years old was struck by two rail cars being moved by a switching crew in the Santa Fe yards. Both legs were severed below the knee and later amputated at Miners hospital. Despite his age he endured the accident and operation and recovery was satisfactory.
Lt. W. Wallace told mining students at the Montana School of Mines that about 67 percent of U S territory has been surveyed and at current pace it will take at least 100 years more to finish. He urged engineering students that the profession offers the greatest chance to serve the nation today.

Davis argued tariffs equalize production costs between Europe and America to protect American workers. Other speakers Adelina Otero Warren Hilario Delgado discussed veterans benefits and education funding.
Myra Maresaret Hill McCarter spoke in Las Vegas urging women to fight illiteracy and uphold intelligent voting. She praised Republican governance, urged support for Adelina Otero-Warren, and called for a Republican majority in Congress while inviting Democratic women to hear her appeal.

A second victim a man found bullet riddled in a burlap bag dumped in front of St. Pauls Lutheran church shows signs of a deadly assault.
Bennett Hill won the 190 mile automobile champion classic at Cotatl speedway in 52 minutes 38 seconds. Frank Elliott finished second and Jimmy Murphy third. Tommy Milton was forced out on the first lap when a splinter struck his goggles shattering the glass. He was taken to Petaluma hospital for treatment of eye injuries.
Philadelphia report details a poisoning case linked to a cake sent through the mails to Mrs. Sterrett of Bryn Mawr. W. W. Sterrett, a Devon accountant, died after ingesting the cake. his wife remained hospitalized with a hoped for recovery. An autopsy was conducted without a public result.
Rome reports that after Salandra refused to organize a government the king asked Benito Mussolini to form a ministry. Mussolini’s arrival is awaited and could end fascist action. southern Italy allegedly isolated by fascists under Deputy Caradonna. A rumor of King Victor Emmanuel's assassination was denied.
In Williams, Arizona, Miss Pauline Jones won the Coconino County beauty contest by a small margin over Miss Alberta Kenzie of Flagstaff. Final tabulation lists Jones at 336,800 votes to Kenzie 17,650.
Wingstaff football team defeated Williams 11 to 0 in the opener on Williams schedule. Williams suffered the setback in front of a home crowd as Wingstaff controlled the field and secured the first win of the season.
Berlin reports the first quarter of 1922 shows fewer marriages births and deaths than the same period in 1931 Marriages fell from 10 4 to 8 4 per thousand births from 27 7 to 25 6 and deaths from 16 8 to 18 5 per thousand. The 1913 quarter had marriages of 6 2 births 28 8 and deaths 16 8.
Tokyo police estimate 110,900 widows in the city with 413 under 20 and 23,368 under 40. Officials, citing traditional chastity, urge widows to remarry to reduce victimization and address social concerns.

Magdalena New Mexico October 29 The Torreon Sheep company shipped a load of limbs last week Cole Railsaton sent a train load of steers for Red River Cattle Company Dave Farr shipped a train load of cattle and steers St Ft Stiles PL H Goesling and Jose Chavez y Baca also shipped cattle on Sunday The steers weighed about 600 pounds for yearlings and two to three year olds around 60 pounds The Frank A Hubbell company sent a train load and drove them overland to their Ault Lake ranches for pasture.
