President Taft contends he needed no courage to oppose the recall of the judiciary a move he vigorously opposed. He denies any pressure or necessity to voice disapproval of the clause tied to the recall proposal.
President Taft wrestled with his voter status as Cincinnati ballot rules delayed his registration. Officials worked to resolve if he could cast a city ballot next Tuesday. Taft toured Chicago events and spoke on policy as he navigated the registration setback.
In Washington Vermont the subpoenas for defendants in the governments dissolution suit against the steel corporation will be filed Monday if deputy marshals can complete the work in one day. Deputy Attorney General Wickersham wanted each subpoena accompanied by a copy of the governments allegations, but the private printing office could not furnish the required copies until today. They have been sent to Trenton.
A 1911 letter from Convict No. 2671 W White to N B Taylor urges voters to back the Republic Administration in New Mexico. The document, copied and circulated by the Democratic State Central Committee in Santa Fe, accuses Republicans of deceit and argues for Gov. Burson and supervising officials. The notice implies partisan manipulation from the penitentiary to influence the upcoming election.
Mrs. Lillian M. Stevens of Maine, national president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, lauded Captain KR P Hobwon and Dr H W Wiley while condemning Secretary James Wilson at the Milwaukee opening of a National Temperance Workers convention. Ontonagon Michigan jury finds Mrs Laura Stannard not guilty of murdering her husband Charles S Stannard in Greenland last March by strychnine poisoning. Verdict delivered after about one hour and ten minutes of deliberation. The prisoner expressed thanks to the jurors.
Alfred Mallinger died when a double header freight east bound collided head on with a westbound freight near Gallup. The crash halted traffic and prompted an investigation by railroad authorities.
A head on collision between eastbound and westbound freight trains near Perea, New Mexico, killed engineer Alfred Mallinger of Gallup. Firemen and other crew members were seriously injured or escaped. Weather hindered response. wrecking crews cleared the line after twelve hours as trains resumed passage. Mallinger’s death followed his recent promotion. his wife resides in Gallup.

Kalispell Montana February 28 W P Horst arrested last Thursday confessed to manufacturing and circulating spurious dollars. He was arraigned in the district court bound over to the grand jury with a 1500 dollar bond. Horst aged 22 said his counterfeiting outfit was near Lewiston Idaho and that making the dies was easy.
Congress delegate W H Andrews reached Albuquerque on the California Limited after a trip to New York and eastern cities. He said he sees no reason New Mexico cannot stay in the Republican column and that Republican success chances are excellent. He avoided discussing his Senate candidacy.
A delegate expects talks on the United States Senate election after voters decide on November 7. Mr Andrews asserts there is no doubt Taft will be renominated without opposition and that the president’s reelection is equally certain.
The Perrin family of San Jose California gains a 4.5 million pound claim from a Bank of England fortune idle for over 200 years. Nine heirs share including Dr Thomas A Perrin and two brothers in San Jose. Mrs A Craig of North Dakota gets a ninth. two nephews and three cousins may receive half a million each. The dispute started thirty years ago in Brantford Ontario tracing ancestry to the Earl of Pembroke.
A special despatch from Mexico City reports that Paty of Za pate's insurrectionary army was killed in an encounter at Viecapixte near Cuautha. Zapatistas were repulsed by federal forces. federal losses were not disclosed.
W. C. McDonald swears that Bursum campaign allegations about his leasing of public lands are false. He states at Albuquerque speech on October 14 1912 he never claimed land leased for himself or company and that a foreign firm once had a lease which expired in 1911 and was not renewed.
Former New Mexico governor Hagerman denounces Bursum in Las Vegas rally claiming records at the state penitentiary were destroyed amid an investigation into mismanagement and alleged irregularities. He argues the gang slate seeks to hide facts and urges voters to punish corruption before the November election.
