Special to The Journal reports General John J Pershing visiting Fort Bayard New Mexico, meeting 650 sick and wounded soldiers in a gassed unit, praising preparedness, and urging readiness for a future war while recalling his early Army days at Fort Bayard and his first duties with the Sixth Cavalry. He spoke to hundreds, welcomed veteran support, and inspected the hospital, school, and post activities.

New York Oct 27 John D Rockefeller Sr issued a sweeping statement supporting an eight hour day and condemning the twelve hour day and seven day week as unnecessary and unjustifiable. He argues for rest days and better living conditions, saying costs may rise at first but long term efficiency will grow.
Cleveland reports Mrs. Mabel Champion went on trial for the murder of Thomas A. Connell a New Haven carnival promoter. Witness Joseph Schmandle testified identifying Champion as the shooter after observing the attack in a restaurant. He described her drawing a revolver from her blouse and firing three times as her husband assaulted Connell. Patrolman Buell testified the weapon was found on Champion when stopped outside the restaurant.
Two passengers were injured when eight of ten cars derailed on the Colonial express from Boston to Washington at Bengies Maryland. Both victims were treated by a doctor aboard the train.
Preliminary hearing for James Dudley Majors on a highway robbery charge in Kansas City was continued to November.
Topeka reports the warmest October 27 on the state weather record dating back about forty years. The S mark was passed as Dodge City logged the high and forecasters expect further heat. Meteorologist D. Fiera notes the heat may rise even higher today.

Henry Walter I, longtime secretary of Albuquerque Masonic bodies, died suddenly at his West Gold Avenue home at 12:00 yesterday. Born April 9 1885 in Wilmington Delaware he moved to Albuquerque for health two years ago his widow and 12 year old son Eugene survive. Funeral plans pending relatives arrival.
Washington Oct 21 The Mexican Consulate in New York was ordered closed following a New York state supreme court ruling in the Oliver American Trading Corp case. Attested funds and furniture were attached, preventing operations until issues are settled. Mexico will not reopen until the writ of attachment is suspended. embassy officials said the action violates diplomatic immunity and international law. Manuel Telis, charge d affaires, called for action by the U S government.

Havre Mont Oct 27 The deaths of Leonard Jaco Christler a renowned clergyman and Mrs Margaret Carleton in the Christler home are reported as murder and suicide by the woman. No inquest will be held per coroner and sheriff. The pistol lay in Mrs Carleton hand as responders arrived.
Det ot Rev Leonard Christier rector of St. Mark’s Havre known as bishop of all outdoors shot in his home at 1 a.m. by Mrs Margaret Carleton wife of former Hill County Judge. Mrs Christier reported Carleton then killed herself. Christier and Carleton died from wounds. investigation noted gossip had been deemed untrue.
In San Francisco Ruth Sellars escaped after four days of confinement by Charles Fiobaire a U S Army corporal who had kept her in her room bound and gagged. Police arrived to find Robaire had ingested poison and died shortly thereafter. The woman knew Robaire since last April and he enlisted in Wisconsin two years ago.
Berlin reports nitrogen production up five percent compared with pre war years. The association notes the current year’s output could reach 460000 tons, disclosed by Dr. August Mueller, former cabinet member, in a statement.
Railway Age statistics show 122 952 new freight cars and 4 7392 locomotives ordered since Oct 1. The 10 year trend ends 1921 9421 with 166469 timber deliveries and 2118 locomotives on average. Freight loads for four weeks ending Oct 14 1922 fell 2.9 percent from 1920.
