A massive Old Town gathering in Albuquerque showcased a unified push against the political bosses ruling New Mexico. Speakers led by Chaves and Lucero urged a clean government ticket, denouncing the hub of bosses and calling for reform in the state.
Judge Edward A. Mann, once advising county on funding, now signals the law requires the Bernalillo schools get diverted funds. He previously suggested payment from the general deficiency fund for a road project, but maintains the statute forces school use. The county awaits tomorrow’s ruling on Mann’s updated stance.
Public letter by Frank W. Clancy dated Sept 6 1904 denounces Bernalillo County official Hubbell. Clancy accuses Hubbell of dishonesty and betraying Republican principles while urging New Mexico Republicans to reject him.
Counsel for independent producers and for a committee of preferred stockholders argued in the United States court over a plan proposed to dissolve the American Tobacco Company. The preferred stockholders hold about 455,000 shares and claim the plan would safeguard their interests. Opponents say the plan would not truly dissolve the trust and would leave the United Cigar Stores company intact.
In Tifton Georgia on October 25 a jammed steering gear caused a Glidden tour accident killing R M Butler of New York and injuring P J Walker and Mrs Walker of San Francisco and C F Kellman of Rochester New York. The car was traveling about thirty three miles an hour when the steering failed and the front wheel hit an excavation causing a rollover.
Morning Journal report from Rosten Massachusetts outlines the dramatic visit of Colonel Thomas Variond Richesen of A. herst Virginia to his son Reverend Chirenee V. Torthelleson in jail. The elder Variond expressed belief in his son's innocence as court actions proceed including a second autopsy request and fresh tendering of medical findings. A grand jury session is planned for tomorrow to consider government evidence.
Governor Dencon’s conservation waterway bill failed in the lower branch of the general assembly this afternoon with fifty nine affirmative votes, eighteen short of the constitution majority required to pass.
A political letter accuses Francisco Hubbell and allies of manipulating county Republican politics. It names Willard Strickler Nestor Montoya Joseph Saint Andrew Stroup and others, questions party loyalty, and questions the stance of Hubbell backed candidates and his attorney.
The 104th annual session of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for the United States elected officers in New York on Oct 25. Elected were M. W. Bayliss grand commander Josiah H. Horton secretary-general Walter Seymour keeper of archives C Eberly minister of ceremonies John A. Glidden marshal-general.
Tonight at 8 oclock Elks Theater hosts a major campaign rally on pure government in New Mexico. Speakers include E V Chaves C N Marron Antonio Lucero Isaac Barth Manuel A Vigil and Colonel G W Prichard in a non partisan event urging civic righteousness in Albuquerque.
A large audience packed the Duncan opera house in Las Vegas to hear W. C. McDonald, candidate for governor of New Mexico, speak on government reform. McDonald denounced the political machine, defended clean government, and urged voters to back his platform over corrupt bosses and outmoded territorial rule.
