A large flotilla of paddlewheel steamboats escorted by torpedo boats undertakes a 1200 mile voyage to New Orleans. The convoy, led by President 16 and his imposing retinue, showcases a show of force on the waterways.
President Taft begins a 1200 mile river voyage with the Oleander up the Mississippi to New Orleans for the Lakes to the Gulf Deep Waterways convention. The flotilla includes ten river packets with cabinet members governors and diplomats, while a naval escort prepares for stops at eight cities.
In St Louis President Taft and Speaker Cannon endorse waterway improvements as a national policy. Taft urges project-by-project merit and bond funding after careful evaluation, while Cannon adds support, aiming for rapid work if national good justifies the cost. Continued on page 3.
Billings Montana October 25 freight wrecks on rail lines entering Billings postpone the formal opening of the International Exposition of Dry Farming Products until tomorrow morning. After two days as guest of King Victor Emmanuel, Emperor Nicholas left at 3 45 today. He saluted the king and queen, who accompanied him to the railroad. He telegraphed thanks to the king upon reaching the frontier.

Frederick Gebhardt, once married to Anna Luther, admits killing her near Bay Shore after a dispute over money. He describes meeting her in 1907, marrying in 1908, and fleeing with a note to the German Consul tying him to the crime as investigators trace his whereabouts via clues in New York and Germany.
A flash of light exposed the face of Gebhardt peering from a barn as he was run down and arrested. A house search recovered household effects and a woman's finery. Gebhardt claimed he bought them at a sale of unclaimed trunks in Germany and had married under the name Otto Mueller.
Lawton Oklahoma October 25 an infernal machine was found in the office of County Attorney J A Finn who had received an alleged blackhand letter threatening assassination by October 25 The device was set to explode when the door opened F B Swank entered but the bomb did not explode The scene shifts to St Petersburg with a socialist interpellation in the Duma challenging a September imperial ukase and triggering disorder and a referral to a committee.
Henry P. Carpenter, cashier of the Queen's County Savings Bank for twelve years, shot himself today in Flushing. Bank officials report no known motive or discrepancies and offer no explanation for the self inflicted death.
Former President Charles W. Fairbanks lands in Hongkong from Manila and plans onward travel to India in a long international tour. He is accompanied by a party and will proceed to India after a stop in Hongkong.
