HIP COMPANIES PREPARE FOR DAY IN SUPREME COURT AS HIGH TRIBUNAL TEASES OUT A WRIT TO HALT ENFORCEMENT OF LAW. Judges will hear petitions seeking an injunction against government actions while the case proceeds.
Washington October 21 The Supreme Court will hear a bid to issue a temporary restraining order preventing enforcement of the prohibition law against liquor transportation on foreign ships docking at American ports. The move would pause court decisions until the high court rules on the case.
An appeal is filed in New York challenging Judge Higgs ruling on the dry ship ban and the seizure of liquor for ship crews by federal agents. The decree stays seizure and requires a $25 000 bond and a five day appeal window.

The change aims to better withstand heavy freight and cattle traffic.

Hackensack N J Oct 24 George Cline motion picture location finder on trial with Charles Seul Mon and Alice Thornton for the murder of John Bergen admitted on cross examination that he learned his wife had been assaulted and that he invited Bergen to his Edgewater home to discuss “kissing parties” before Bergen was shot during a struggle over a gun. Cline said he acted in self defense after Bergen allegedly called his wife a drugger and disparaged women.
Paris October 24 Georges Carpentier has issued a formal challenge to Rattling Siki for a return bout, after the interim mandated by federation rules since Siki’s knockout of Carpentier in six rounds. Carpentier’s manager awaits Siki’s manager reply, but the bout is unlikely to be arranged soon.
Wing Ty a 17 year old Chinese girl in Manila reportedly killed herself by drowning in the Pasig river after her mother spanked her for bobbing her hair and cutting skirts to flapper length. The mother used a leather strap during the punishment and Wing Ty then leaped into the river.
Berlin with Associated Press reports the Reichstag passed a resolution by 314 to 78 to extend President Friedrich Ebert's term until June 30 1923. The vote reflects postwar political maneuvering as the government seeks stability.
President Harding is satisfied with Brig. Gen. Charles L. Sawyer’s services and will not accept resignation calls from the American Federation in New Orleans.
