The tramp steamer Nicaragua sailing from Tampico to Port Arthur sank in a Gulf of Mexico storm on October 16. Six crew members drowned while the rest reached land safely. The 397 ton vessel, valued at $20,000, was caught off Padre Island sixty miles south of Corpus Christi. It was owned by the Maderas Consolidated Company of Tampico Houston.
