News from Camden says a mob broke into the jail at midnight and shot to death Ed Huey and his son George Hartley in a vacant lot about 200 feet from the jail. Det G Ed Huey and his son had been jailed after a murder conviction connected to Connie Hartley's death. The group, estimated between 25 and 50 men, carried faces masked and overpowered Sheriff KL Fion to free the prisoners and kill them. This is cited as Benton county’s first mob verdict.
Enencoia California Oct 20 Captain Holand H B Brumbaugh a student pilot was instantly killed when the naval plane carrying a passenger skidded and went into a sea wall the craft wrecked. Mike Mitchell a 21 year old former First National bank clerk was arrested in Hot Sprites at 2 pm after allegedly stealing 12500 from the bank. About 11000 of the missing funds were recovered. He had earlier purchased a Nash roadster for 1410 and left with an overcoat. He was accompanied by F J Weinberg who drove the getaway car.
Charley White, Chicago lightweight, defeated Sid Marks, Canadian lightweight champion, in the second round at Madison Square Garden. White’s win boosts his claim for a title bout with Kenny Leonard and recalls a planned Jersey City fight halted by infection.
