Northern leader draws crowd with nationalist speech as he writes his name on a banner and kisses the Mexican flag amid tense scenes. Pledges loyalty to the convention and its cause as supporters cheer.
General Villa pledged support to the national convention at Aguas Calientes and vowed loyalty to its decisions except Carranza. He praised patriotism, kissed the Mexican flag, and left for Guadalupe after pledging to back the convention’s choice, raising expectations of peaceful resolution and potential leadership by Villareal if chosen. Zapata’s attendance is anticipated by delegates.
El Paso reports that Carranza loyalists will establish headquarters in El Paso led by General Carranza. Rafael E. Muzquiz is named consul general to the United States and inspector of consulates, with the bureau of information to be run by an American newspaper man. Maj. Tepete promises amnesty for those arrested in Juarez for espionage. A Carranza Villa reconciliation conference opens soon at Aguas Calientes. No central Mexico activity reported.

Nace Arizona October 19 The theoretical armistice between the Car ranges garrison in Naco Sonora and Maytorena siege near here shows little value as skirmish fire continues. Maytorena troops have mounted another field piece south of the town and may engage the Mexican garrison if effective. Maytorena is said to recognize the Aguas Calientes commission as it travels toward the area.
The U S Raleigh departed San Diego to Ensenada to guard eight Americans believed aboard the Mexican steamer Mazatlan. Mexican military authorities had commandeered the Mazatlan to move artillery from Ensenada to Guaymas. Two passengers and six crew members were the Americans reported. Authorities seek to determine if aid is needed.
Annapolis Md Oct 19 Judge Prashear urged the grand jury to investigate the death of Cadet William R Bowlus of Middletown Md from a hazing incident at Johns College on May 6 The five freshmen named as responsible are George H Weaver Henry L Valdez Fendall Marbury R A Jones and John M Noble based in several cities including New York Havana Cambridge and Baltimore

The Panama Canal will again open to traffic tomorrow with ten merchantmen passing from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Dredging proceeds at 25 000 cubic yards daily and earth movements near Gold Hill have ceased. The canal is about 140 feet wide and 35 feet deep. Ships are being guided through the flanks to expedite passage and twenty two vessels are awaiting transit.
A casualty list dated October 15 and released tonight lists twelve officers killed and wounded in recent fighting.
Paris and Berlin dispatches report heavy fighting from Nieuport to Vinslo and near Dunkirk as German troops press toward Dunkirk and Boulogne. British and French fleets allegedly help drive back German forces while gains alternate along Arras, Roye, and Meuse regions with house to house combat.
