In New York an alleged bribery case involves offers of 80000 dollars to prohibition officers to refrain from reporting dry law violations. The individuals accused face charges of attempting to obstruct enforcement.
Eight men including Harry Foley former secretary to Senator Edwards of New Jersey and now state superintendent of weight and measures were arrested in a hotel sting on bribery charges. Federal officials said the case exposed a shocking state of affairs with bootleggers and officials in league to evade prohibition laws.
Federal agents arrested multiple conspirators and filed fifty four suits to padlock alleged speak easies under the Volstead act. A regular weekly bribe of 4500 dollars was reportedly accepted by one agent before today's arrests. Individuals named include J Harry Foley Herbert Katz Edward Butler Garry Kull George Seeber Harry Greenfield Emanuel Filfenbein Werman J Goldman Theodore Schwartzmann William Nathan and Dr Leo Sakaroff.

Washington October 18 Sen attorney King a democrat Utah predicts William G McAdoo will head the democratic national ticket next November while Charles F studies the republican. He says the republican convention will endorse the administration and in search of a candidate will find only the disarmament conference led by Secretary Hughes. King favors sending a committee to Russia to resume relations.
Santa Fe October 18 1923 audit of the state land office directed by Commissioner Justiniano Baca shows $163902.36 saved from maintenance funds through September 1 1923. The audit will cover Oct 1 1918 to date, spanning administrations of Mulller Field and Baca with support from the comptroller’s office and an Albuquerque firm.
London, Oct 18 A strike of several hundred British physicians set for January 1 was decided today. Members of the Panel Doctors Union, serving 15 million health fund contributors, voted to refuse a fee reduction. Doctors currently receive 9s 6d annually per registered patient as the minister of health proposed lowering to 5s 6d.
The new United States Indian school auditorium, named Burke Hall after Charlies H. Burke, was dedicated with remarks by Lem Towers and Walter Stevens. Isleta Indian Joe Padilla proposed the name, Willam Chavez seconded. the motion passed unanimously. The hall seats 950 on the main floor and 4560 in the gallery, cost about 42000 dollars, and features a large gymnasium.
British premier David Lloyd George visited the Lincoln tomb in Springfield with Dame Margaret and Miss Megan Lloyd George. He placed a wreath and paid homage, calling Lincoln one of the world’s greatest men and touring the Lincoln home with interest. Governor Small welcomed him at a public dinner.
