Flying parson Lai achieves the Great Aviation Gross Continental endurance feat by flying from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast and back. The record marks the culmination of an extended solo journey, highlighting his skill and perseverance in challenging air currents and distances.
Lieutenant Belvin W. Maynard completes a historic 142 mile leg to Mineola New York ending a cross continent aviation endurance test. He salutes companion Sergeant Klein while greeting his wife and two daughters and hints at a one stop transcontinental return.
Storm outlook shows Sunday and Monday mostly fair in Denver, with possible rain and cooler conditions in the north portions. Arizona sees generally fair weather with a colder Sunday and warmer Monday in the north. Temperature and humidity readings are listed with wind patterns and precipitation data ending 6 pm yesterday.
Mrs. George Lass of Chicago chairs the National Democratic Committee Women’s Associate Committee and will organize women voters to aid Democrats. She played an active role in 1916 when ten of twelve states with woman suffrage backed Woodrow Wilson.
Senate Interstate Commerce Committee completed a draft bill to end government control thirty days after enactment and establish a permanent railroad policy. It creates a wage and working conditions board with equal employee and company representation and allows appeals to a general committee. It also imposes penalties for fomenting strikes and outlines financial terms for government obligations and railroad earnings.
Petro Pierre, LWV member, convicted by federal jury in Leavenworth on threatening the life of President Wilson. Sentenced to three and a half years in federal penitentiary with bond set at 7600 dollars on appeal. Verdict delivered in twenty minutes. Also reports Miss Helen Jingeard injured in airplane crash and Rex Randall sustaining injuries.
The king queen and heir to the throne visit the Grand Canyon. Her Majesty is seen climbing a rock ledge and clinging to a ranger as she peers into the dizzy depths of the gorge.
Queen Elizabeth and King Albert of Belgium toured the Grand Canyon with their son and Duke of Sutherland. Governor Campbell and officials welcomed them, a student from Flagstaff rode eighty miles to greet them, and the royals admired the canyon’s vistas. They planned a visit to Gallup, Albuquerque, then a long jump to St Louis.
Albert of Belgium and Queen Elizabeth arrived at nine this morning to view the Grand Canyon. The king and the more adventurous in his party rode down the trail to the canyon bottom on the backs of burrs while others explored the rim and marveled at the Colorado chasm.
Thirty six delegates from labor organizations across the state gathered at the New Mexico State Federation of Labor convention in Deming. Mayor Vo Hamilton delivered the welcome, president Madward Torrey spoke, outlining current labor conditions and future proposed actions to address state and national labor issues.
Around 100000 miners in coal fields vow to suspend work beginning November 1 unless their demands are granted. Union leaders warn there is little chance to avert the disruptive walkout as negotiations stall.
Secretary Wilson declines comment on talks as John L. Lewis warns miners will strike November 1 if five day week and other demands are not met. Operators refuse to bargain while strike order remains and claim demands are impossible. Lewis says enough coal will exist to keep the country warm for thirty days. The scale committees and Wilson plan to meet Tuesday to seek peace.
Lieutenant Maynard lands at Mineola at 1:40 pm after nearly two miles per minute flying across the continent. He carried Master Electrician William Klein and a police dog named Trixie, with unofficial return-time of 24 hours 45 minutes. Officials say extra time for motor changes will be added to official time.
The executive committee of the Disciples of Christ in convention at Cincinnati recommends a general salary rise for pastors. Salaries under 1500 should rise 25 percent, between 1500 and 2500 by 20 percent, between 2500 and 3900 by 15 percent, and above 3900 by 14 percent. The denomination plans to spend 500 million dollars on Bible school expansion next year.
King Albert of Belgium and party will tour Isleta for a two part entertainment showing Pueblo dances led by the Lagunas and a cowboys and cowgirls quadrille with riders such as Buck Connor and Fred Simmons. The royal train departs at 6 45 tonight after a 2 45 arrival and a reception in Albuquerque.
White members of the Senate Labor and Education Committee investigated the Pittsburgh steel strike. Chairman William S. Kenyon of Iowa narrowly escaped a shooting incident as bullets flew during the confrontation, initially believed aimed at the senators but later found to be directed at strike pickets by workers who stayed at work.
Washington reports that President Wilson is having a comfortable day and is making slow but steady progress toward recovery from nervous exhaustion. Doctors say no operation is needed for the prostate swelling, with rest from official duties to continue and veto plans to be exercised only on matters warranting action.
Police stations across New York will host food stock sales to raise funds. Communal officer Kariaht announced the plan to offer groceries to officers and staff at rost to members of the force.
Special to Isletta reports Indian ceremonial dances and cowboy stunts planned for the Belgian king and queen. Morning Journal pledges 200 dollars for a Santa Fe train. visitors allowed atop plaza houses to view the event. Railway fare remains 1.18 dollars round trip. Train departs Albuquerque depot around 8 after local reception and arrives at Isleta before the royal arrival.
In a tight contest between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, Santa Fe won the New Mexico American Legion state headquarters by four votes for a one year term. The convention elected officers, named delegates to Detroit, and a lone woman, Mrs. M. B. Roberts, among the national delegates. The next session will choose permanent headquarters.
Secretary Jansing Bloom outlined New Mexico participation in WWI era service records. The state contributed to telegraph and motor units, supply trains, transportation corps, and ammunition trains, plus field hospitals and ambulance units. Marines, tank corps, gas regiments, cavalry, artillery, machine gun battalions, balloon companies, aero squadrons, engineers and infantry regiments numbered among the states representatives.
