In New York on October 17 Secretary of State Hughes urged revising the presidential election setup including the House contingency and six year presidential term idea. He argued for stronger checks on Congress and a final court review of legislative acts and proposed changes to the national election framework.
In Frederick Maryland on October 17 four teen defendants in the Myersville tar and feather cases pleaded guilty to riot during circuit court arraignments before Chief Judge Hammond Turner and Associate Judge Robert B. Peter. Several defendants including Mrs Mary Shanks asked mercy as they prepared to testify on their role in the attack on Dorothy Grandon last July when she was tarred and stripped. Five defendants pleaded not guilty. The court will assess each participant after the witnesses testify. Grandon was accused of accepting attentions from married Myersville men.
