Fighting near the border leaves seven American soilders wounded and two believed mortally after Yaqui Indian forces fire upon Maytorena faction. Reports indicate heavy losses on the Mexican side and continued action along the frontier.
At Naco Sonora last night and today Maytorena forces attacked the town after disregarding the armistice. Seven were wounded including four negro troopers of the Ninth Cavalry protecting the American town. Two most seriously hurt troopers were sent to Fort Huachuca and may not survive.
Adoelfo Carrillo, Carranza's coastal agent in Los Angeles, reports that General Baltazar Avilez and Colonels Tenerio and Cantu have declared Lower California independent from Carranza and Villa and plan a full revolt.
Roy L B Glover of San Antonio Texas was freed of murder charges in the December killing of Daniel DeVilliers former Boer army officer shot in Glover's Los Angeles home during a quarrel over Mrs Glover who had been DeVilliers wife.
Paris October 17 Paul Leroy Beaulieu, French economist, told the academy that each belligerent spends about 200 million dollars monthly. He estimated the war could continue seven months from August 1, totaling roughly 7.09 billion dollars for the five powers involved.
