Paris reports that north of the Somme troops entered the village of Saint Saullin and seized houses along the Baupaume road to the central crossroads amid violent German counter actions. South of the Somme the Allies repulsed German attacks at St Blotwood and Belloy en Santerre while the front was quiet overall and Allied aircraft claimed seven aerial victories in bad weather.
From Rome dated Oct 16 the war office says on the Verbiobizza and hill 208 sectors near Gorizia Allied forces conducted small local actions, extended their positions, and took a few prisoners amid active fighting along the front.
A wireless message from Petrograd reports German lines in Dobrudja withdrawing toward Dobrich area. Romanian prince Ferdinand visited Dobrudja and the situation is described as excellent by dispatches.
