"Flying Parson" Maynard maintains the lead he seized leaving Mineola as he outpaces entrants into Bay City in the Great Air Derby.
First Lieut Belvin W Maynard and Sgt W E Klein landed at Roosevelt field after flying 2 701 miles from Mineola in 24 hours 58 minutes 55 seconds unofficially. Maynard praised the trip while families and officials welcomed them amid cheers and applause.
At 6 35 PM Lieut. Fr Kiel and Maj. Carl Spatz landed at Hoosewelt field after an eastbound flight from San Francisco. Other racers followed through Battle Mountain and Reno with several pilots reporting landings in Utah and Nevada. Officials urged completion that night as weather remained favorable.
