Nasty weather fails to dull enthusiasm as stands fill with boosters during the parade at Traction Park opening day. The event features a spirited march down the track while fans cheer the early season pageantry.
A crowded Albuquerque crowd heard governors and senators praise unity and state progress as Governor McDonald, Senator Catron, and others spoke at the New Mexico state fair opening. They urged cooperation, scientific farming, and development of arid lands, while cadets and the Kilties band provided stirring entertainment amid gusty winds.
Portrayal shows Tuesday in the west fair with rain possible in the east portion. Wednesday expects fair weather and warmer conditions in the northern area.

George F Minckpole a 71 year old Riverhead attorney near Belle Vue hospital succumbed to anthrax an illness common in cattle and sheep. In a final statement he urged readiness to face death and referenced President Garfield. His weakened condition followed a night of pain and facial swelling. It is believed he may have contracted the disease via a hitching pin used by Riverhead farmers.
Lieutenants Walter Taliaferro of the First aero corps United States Army died when his plane plunged about 1800 feet into San Diego Bay. Divers reported the aircraft mired fifty feet below the surface and the body entangled in the machine. Witnesses said he attempted a loop when control was lost.
Reports to Gen. P. Elias Calles at Agua Prieta say 400 Mayo Indians from Villa entered Navajoa, then returned to farms seeking freedom guarantees. Villa Zapata gunboat Bonita captured near Santo Rosalie. About 500 Villa Zapata soldiers surrender to Carranza authorities at Tampico per telegram from Flavio Beorquez.
A state department official will investigate alleged passport misuse in European capitals. R. W. Flournoy Jr., head of the passport division, has been in London and will travel to Paris Berlin and other capitals to pursue the inquiry.
Four K class submarines travel from San Francisco to Honolulu and are more than halfway there. Navy reports show no accidents or weather delays. The flotilla is seen reaching Honolulu Friday or Saturday at eight to nine knots.
Olga H. Walsh of Chicago sues in federal court to prevent Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York from investing $16,000,000 of its trust funds in the Anglo French loan and to restrain executives and J P Morgan from aiding the loan. The filing argues such investments could destabilize policyholders’ interests and violate the company’s solvency and reserve integrity.
