Thousands fill the Grand Stand and bleachers as crowds overflow fences and spill onto the ball ground. Gate receipts exceed the previous peak by about $400, the event fulfilling expectations and boosting Albuquerque’s standing with the fair grounds established.
A huge Albuquerque crowd packs Traction Park for the territorial fair day. Thousands attend the derby and other events as gate receipts set a new record, with ample applause for baseball, bronco busting, cavalry maneuvers, and racing thrills.
The downtown area drew about ten thousand people from morning until midnight for a city pageant. The event featured a trade procession and the performances of "Fighting the Flames," with spectators moving slowly through the core street due to crowds.
The Albuquerque traction line ferried an estimated fifteen thousand people to the fair yesterday. Crowds filled carnival shows and lines stretched along streets as the company prepared to handle even larger turnout for today’s program and the grand finale.
A coroner's jury in Lola Kas Opt 16 found Miss Sapp died from wounds in the chest caused by a sharp instrument in the hands of a person other than Miss Sapp. They doubted charges of suicide or accident and noted a prior unsigned verdict. New York Oct 10 Mrs Mars Anna Pepper Vanderbilt a spiritualist medium was arrested on grand larceny charges connected to the Vanderbilt estate. She surrendered at the district attorney office but a writ of habes corpus freed her on bail.
Fusion between the Republicans and the Independence League of New York County carried a county ticket. Nominations included Mo Linh Bruce for Justice of the Supreme Court and Max Thmaen for Sheriff. The Hearst party banners the scene as it shapes the local slate.
In Richmond Virginia during a triennial convention church leaders wrestled with sacred issues. The House of Bishops adopted a report uniting rural districts into provinces and defined mission districts and new sees in the west. New bishops were named to preside over the divisions.
In New York, Mae Wood’s divorce action against Senator Thomas Platt was postponed as Judge Lee ordered production of her alleged marriage certificate and a letter alleging Platt’s wedding. The delay, about ten days, follows claims the documents are in possession of Mae Wood’s counsel.

Cannon endorsed for president at the Michigan convention where Joseph Cannon’s renomination was debated.
Cassie Chadwick also known as Elizabeth Bigely longtime con artist who forged notes and misled banks died in the Ohio Penitentiary ward at 10 05 p m after a long illness. Her scheme involved forged Carnegie notes and loans from Cleveland to Oberlin banks ruining depositors and drawing federal charges. Her health declined after her 1908 trial and ten year sentence.
Oct 18 in Munell jury completion after three days of questioning with opening statements by lawyers. State witnesses to be heard tomorrow morning in Decatur.
Boise Idaho October a conference with Pettibone case attorneys Judge Wood said he would personally inquire into the prisoner's condition and whether a trial should proceed though he remains seriously ill in a hospital. The trial is set for next Tuesday and the court may rule then. A telegram from General Prade reports French forces near Chen Biance with Moorish artillery.
Santa Fe youth Pete Alarid was found under the back stairway of the St Clair hotel on Central avenue amid carnival crowds. Proprieter covered him with six guns and police were summoned as excitement spread. Alarid claimed he was looking for a friend and appeared intoxicated before being jailed.
Kemp V. Biglow of Farmer Ohio admits writing letters to Burlington railroad Adams Express Moffat and other firms demanding up to 190 000 with threats to blow trains and buildings unless paid. He earlier mailed dynamite to Governor Buechtel and Denver officials. Day identified as the delivery target.
Superintendent John Stein of the Harvey system reports a record business week at the Alvarade hotel with unprecedented crowds for fair week. He notes each day exceeds last year’s fall totals and expects visitors to stay through the Montezuma ball and all events. Other hotel managers echo the surge in demand.
Mobile Ala Oct 10 nearly all vessels in the Central American fruit trade will in the next weeks replace their Norwegian crews with Chinamen. Norwegian owners cite unsatisfactory labor and desertions due to boarding house interference, planning to hire about thirty five men per ship for a total of around one thousand eighty Chinese crew members.
Arthur Johnson, a known colored boxer who recently defeated Bob Fitzsimmons, was arrested in Washington on a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses. Thornton Williams of the city said Johnson passed a worthless check two years ago. Johnson claimed ignorance of the check's worthlessness. The case adjourned until tomorrow.
New Orleans reports at the tenth biennial convention of the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees an assessment of one dollar per member per month to fund members on strike in San Francisco. About 69,000 members across the United States and Canada will maintain the levy until the strike ends. Separate item from Kiev notes police arresting a revolutionist Krugikoff alias Spransky linked to Borle Nikitenke in a plot against Emperor Nicholas. Nikitenke was executed September 3.

The Santa Fe and Rock Island railroads filed reports with the state railroad board on fares per mile for year ending June 1894 1907. Santa Fe average 0.02068 per passenger mile in Kansas and 0.62115 overall. Rock Island Kansas 0.2284 and 0.2232 overall. Rock Island earned about 2.12 cents per mile. Santa Fe about 2 cents per mile in Kansas operations.
Vienna October 16 reports the condition of Emperor Francis Joseph improving slightly but still with high fever and apathy. He rests in a chair and often sleeps, while doctors remain hopeful his strong system will fight bronchial catarrh causing concern.
A bank run at the Farmers' and Mechanics' Bank in Minneapolis culminated with about 200000 drawn today and around 400000 for the week from a 15 million deposit base. A clearing house statement attested to the bank's excellent condition as 54000 depositors were affected.
Wilkesbarre Ort 10 The Indianapolis report says John Mitchell president of the United Mine Workers will not seek reelection. If he does not reverse, miners may nominate Thomas O Nichols of Scranton Pa district No 3 who was elected to Congress last November and takes his seat in December. International VP Lewis and National Secretary-Treasurer W4f are expected to be nominated as well.
Screwmen remain on strike in New Orleans with fewer than five hundred workers reporting to duty. About 10,000 cotton handlers and leaders are idle in sympathy with the atten sorew men's causes.
A Denver report states over 500000 dollars worth of merchandise was stolen from Burlington freight cars in transit between Chicago and Denver in the past year. About 300 Italian laborers who pillaged the cars were discharged, and secret service agents traced a scheme but could not obtain enough evidence to convict the thieves.
John Read was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to six months in prison for taking part in the recent anti Oriental riots in Vancouver British Columbia.

Inspector General Garlington reported to Secretary Taft after five weeks in Manila that there is reason to believe no action by the War Department is recommended regarding the charges against Paymaster Tucker. The inquiry was prompted by Mrs Tucker's allegations and aimed to determine accountability for alleged misconduct.
The Austrian steamer Giella carrying 763 passengers arrived today from Tedeste. It escaped destruction in the mid ocean during a violent war on October 3 as flames raged aboard. The crew fought fire all day and passengers prayed for aid.
