The 19 year old Clifton Hayes was placed in the Sumerset county jail on a first degree murder warrant for the September 14 slayings of Rev. Edward Wheeler Hall and Fileanor Reinhardt Mills. Raymond Schneider claimed Hayes acted in mistaken identity saying Hayes shot the couple while Mills and his wife Pearl Bahmer’s stepfather Nicholas Bahmer were nearby.
The British prime minister told labor deputations the war aims paralleled Labour's long-held stance for free straits under League of Nations supervision, but US France and Italy refused necessary mandates. The bodies of William E Wheeler and his three children were found in an undertaking home after Wheeler killed the children, aged 6, 2, and 6 months, by drowning them in a bath and then shot himself. Mrs Wheeler found them after returning from church. A note blamed poverty and unemployment for the act.
Heeulaeviin Ky October 9 Julian W. Caudle 32 a farmer died at his home shortly after being stung over the heart by a yellow jacket.
Representative Theodore KE. Ruar ten and Rep Burton urged against canceling allied debts arguing it would hurt national credit and tax burdens. Burton favored private credits and warned against further foreign loans, while opposing wide League of Nations influence and supporting a limited world court outside the league.
Mrs. Clara Phillips, jailed for the July 12 hammer killing of 20 year old Alberta Meadows, again denies delivering the fatal blow. She told court I never struck the blow that killed Alberta Meadows and paused before finishing. Reports say her stance against pleading insanity has led to changes of counsel as October trial nears.
