Atlanta Oct 8 A 87 year old suffrage leader Mrs W F H Felton is appointed by Gov Hardwick to fill the late Senator Tom Watson’s seat in the U S Senate. The post is honorary and runs only until November when an election will choose a successor. Felton active in politics since 1912 delegate to the bull moose convention. She was born in DeKalb county in June 1855 and married Dr W H Felton in 1853 becoming a widow in 1909. Hardwick also announced his candidacy for the seat at fall primaries.
New York reports official batting and fielding averages show the Giants superior in pitching batting base running and overall play. Ruth struggles with only two hits in 17 at bats as the Giants oust Yankees with Groh Frisch Meusel leading the offense and Ward hitting two homers.
The government offers about 500 million dollars of four and a quarter percent eighty year treasury bonds as part of refunding short term debt. Issued October 14 1622 with 4.25 percent interest, bonds mature October 15 1902 and may be redefined after that date.
Rain postponed the fourth game for the city championship between the Cubs and the White Sox at Comiskey Park. Thousands of fans heard the Giants and Yankees world series finale play by play and enjoyed a concert between halves. The teams will meet again at Comiskey Park tomorrow weather permitting.

She carried a letter from Mayor Thompson to Mayor tylan and claimed to be the first woman to fly coast to coast. She left San Francisco October 5 and reached Cleveland at 9 56 am before landing in New York.
San Francisco heads into the final weeks with a two game lead over Vernon in the Pacific Coast League pennant race. San Francisco opens against Oakland while Vernon meets Los Angeles as both chase the title.
President Harding authorized a nationwide fundraising appeal for Near East refugees. Former Postmaster General Hays heads special committees, backing the joint Red Cross Near East Relief drive with a new Near East Emergency Fund and coordinated support from multiple organizations. Funds go to Washington and New York recipients, with a November Red Cross roll call emphasis.

New York October 8 The New York Giants capture the world series lead with a 5 to 3 victory over the Yankees. A late rally after a tense eighth inning sealed the win as manager Huggins clashed with pitcher Bush over a base on balls decision. Giants hitters Frisch and Meusel drove in key runs aiding a late surge. The Yankees, led by Groh and Pipp, fought back but could not overcome the decisive Giants outburst.
