Washington Oct 7 Three battleships and a matching number of submarines and destroyers form the Wilson administration naval policy for Congress December. Secretary Daniels favors spending most of a 1498 million appropriation on three first class battleships to restore U S strength, aiming for parity with Britain and surpassing Germany. The plan contemplates cuts in shore facilities to fund the ships with standard design to enable uniform fleet maneuvers. The ships would carry twelve 14 inch guns and aim for medium speed as a compromise between British Japanese and German designs.
Four jurors had been chosen for Jamies Lynch's murder trial of Roswell marshal Roy Wooster when a juror’s stated opposition to capital punishment appeared. Judge McClure recessed until tomorrow to rule on whether the juror’s views void the panel. The case stems from Roswell’s prohibition enforcement conflict.
Distressing crash during a 100 horse power aeroplane exhibition near Lake Keuka in Hammondsport New York leaves Ruth Hildreth about 20 dead and her sister Dorothy critically injured. General Chao said Torreon fell at 10 p m on October 2 to rebel forces led by Villa Urbina and Ciurcia after a thirteen day battle. Federal Commander Brave and most troops were captured except General Emilio Cumpa who escaped. A federal message denies the insurgent tale.
