The first expedition reaches Havana in record time and reports the landing accomplished with the soldiers in fine condition. The occupation follows U S forces securing the area and preparing for subsequent steps.
U S forces reach Camp Colombia near Marianao with 750 troops and Brooklyns 400 marines, while General Funston takes command until General Bell arrives. Disarming efforts continue amid pockets of resistance in Santa Clara and Sancti Spiritus. Taft, Bacon, and Magoon prepare to shape Cuban governance.
In Havana province violent groups march the streets as ex rebels kill a comrade and flee to the mountains. Governor Taft's envoys Nunez and Steinhart meet to settle a dispute over the mayoral post between Momieda and Bazan. A naval movement and Sumner's unloading accompany the unrest.
Havana reports the preliminaries of the Good Government League of Cuba as Americans and Cubans meet to promote a permanent government, justice, tranquility and liberty. The group signals possible steps toward greater American oversight beyond the Platt amendment.
In Havana a secret liberal meeting discussed reorganizing the party. Most imprisoned conspirators attended, expressing satisfaction and wish to cooperate with the provisional government. A mass rally was planned for October 14 to honor leaders and revolutionary managers, with Taft and Bacon invited.
Newport News reports the Panama with two squadrons headquarters and band of the Fifteenth Cavalry sails for Mavana. Assistant Paymaster General Charles T. Whipple leaves aboard with 27000 dollars to pay soldiers in Cuba. Monterey and Niagara to depart tomorrow with two battalions of the Seventeenth Infantry and the first of the Twenty-eighth Infantry.
A Guines delegation reported to General Funston that Albert's disbanded rebels entered Guines and attacked policemen suspended under pay since American marines arrived. Several officers were badly cut with machetes and rebels threatened to kill the entire force. Funston ordered Captain Phelan and Captain Fugura to cooperate and tighten night vigil ahead of a local negro ball.
Provisional Governor Charles E Magoon and General Bell head to Tampa to sail tonight for Havana arriving Tuesday. Colonel Vallery Harvard and several army officers accompany them along with Mrs Taft and Mrs Bacon. Magoon would not discuss policy.
In Tayana province the last rebel group in Havana region disbanded at Alquixar with 350 members surrendering 160 guns to Major Ladd of the disarmament commission. Ladd learned at San Antonio de Los Banos that Alquizar forces contested surrender order, and he arranged simultaneous disarmament with volunteers. A town celebration followed. Police at Guiria to be disbanded as ex-rebel detachments under the Del Castillo brothers plan to disarm tomorrow. mayor requests twenty American soldiers to guard the area against cattle and horse theft.
Havana dispatches say disbanded rebels are hiding near Guines and Alguiar and waving machetes. General Punaston will travel to Guines tomorrow with the Santa Clara disarming commission led by Jose Miguel Gomez and Garcia Canizares.
Casualties and tension ease as insurgents camp near Trinidad refrain from entering the town to avoid clashes. Disarmament is planned for tomorrow. In Casilda, 2 000 people and bands greeted arrivals while 1 500 insurgents linger outside Trinidad. Also: prominent Kansas lawyer Gaspar C. Clemens dies at 59. cousin of Mark Twain.
The Southern Pacific plans a new program in scientific railroading by starting a school for railroad employees in Sparks Nevada with the University of Nevada. Courses include arithmetic elementary mechanics mechanical drawing link motion and valve motion. A separate Chicago fire at Morgan Blind and Sash caused $100000 in losses.
General George B Davie announces 4496 trials by general court martial in the last fiscal year with 50 commanding officer cases. 42 convicted 8 acquitted 14 dismissed and two resignations accepted for the good of the services.
The Chicago Northwestern railway plans a 20 million dollar terminal in Chicago. The old Well Street station will shift to freight use. The new facility lies on Madison between Canal and Clinton, with sheds extending north to Lake Street.
General Davis informs the acting secretary of war that no law forbids using the U S flag for advertising. The Jamestown Expositions seek flag use. Mail clerks and the eight hour law issue to be reviewed by the assistant attorney general. In Pensacola the navy yard vessels stranded by the hurricane are being dredged to move them from deep water to dry ground.
After a deadly spree of white black clashes starting September 15, a 37 year old negro was lynched at Sixth and Main in Argenta at 10 pm. Police and crowds had earlier endured shootings and attempted break ins as sprees of violence escalated.
Det J F Gail lard, shot by Henry Adams alias Small at Manning Friday evening, died today. A mob sought to lynch Adams, but the sheriff kept him safe and he was jailed at the local penitentiary. Other items note insurance suits in San Francisco and a new discus record in New York.
John Alexander Dowie halted his Mexican colony project following a five hour vision received Friday night. Deacon Arrington announced in Chicago that Dowie will instead raise $1,000,000 there to restore Dowie's prestige and power and shift focus to Zion.
A mob hijacked Blackburn from Argenta jail and lynched him amid fears of further violence. In Kansas City area, 800 residents fled Argenta after night threats, while homes and businesses were burned by incendiaries. In Bloomington Indiana, Ed W Jones, who shot Alfred Stevens, was moved to Jeffersonville penitentiary as authorities kept the jail from being stormed.
A blaze that started tonight in the Packham cottage swept to the Cape house and several other cottages at Cape May Point N J damaging the public school building only slightly. Cape May authorities and relief crews arrived as the fire was brought under control with property losses around fifty thousand dollars.
In Macon Georgia order returns as a shooting suspect is moved to Atlanta for safekeeping. Women wounded are hospitalized. Militia stands ready after a mob breached the jail last night but prisoners were kept in barracks under guard. The shooter was wounded but to recover. Federal prisoners Greene and Gaynor, convicted over Savannah harbor frauds, were present in the jail, yet mingled with the crowd.
Rumors say mob violence ended after threats of retaliation by African Americans over yesterday's incident involving Thomas Robinson. Officials report no further trouble expected and the mobilization of lynch mobs subsided.
Minneapolis chef T William A Dowell, a prominent newspaper man, was shot and killed today by John Quirk at the Quirk residence on Chicago Avenue as Dowell and Bessie Quirk entered the home. Dowell died shortly after at a hospital. Quirk awaited officers and was taken into custody.

N. C. Ort. 7 R. H. Bue banks, superintendent of a construction company on the Southern railway, was shot and killed today by Oscar Gaddy, a Black man, at the railway site.
Internal Revenue Commissioner Yerkes announced regulations for making denatured alcohol and its uses in industry and heating. Effective January 1, 1907, the law allows tax free withdrawal for alcohol rendered unfit for beverage by denaturing materials. The rule aims to reduce costs for domestic and industrial heat and power, challenging coal and gasoline as fuels.
Fire from a locomotive feed tank destroyed the Gila Valley Globe and Northern machine shops at Globe Arizona. Four engines and an off car burned. a sugar war and merchandise car partly burned. Estimated railroad loss about $160.

The American Royal Livestock Show begins in Kansas City with more entries than ever. The event lasts all week and features 700 breeding cattle 100 fat cattle 60 carloads of fat and feeding cattle 250 draft coach and hackney horses including eight from England’s King Edward and Lord Keothschild 70 hogs sheep and goats. Exhibitors join from sixteen states and top cattle herds and prize winners from a dozen state fairs attend. Judges include W Anderson Blaker Mills Rogers Hall and Curtis.
Mrs Carey M Snyder arrived in Portland Oregon and positively identified the skeleton found near here on October 1 as her husband Carey M Snyder. Dentists descriptions match the skull and she refuses to discuss the death with authorities.
