A severe blaze at a college conducted by Christian Brothers destroys the central main building. Nineteen people are reported injured or missing as flames engulf the structure. Rescue and investigation efforts are underway.
A deadly fire at Christian Brothers College in St. Louis claimed nine lives including two priests. Eleven others were injured, thirteen trapped firefighters were rescued with seven seriously hurt, while a nurse died. Loss exceeds $200,000 as wings and the natural history museum are destroyed. The campus housed 105 students and 30 faculty at breakfast when the blaze began on the fifth floor.
In Atlantic City on Oct 4 the American-Mexican joint commission discussed border protection but failed to agree. Four patrol plans were proposed by both sides, each proposing withdrawal of General Pershing's army from Chihuahua, while the Americans demand Mexico address its internal order. Secretary Lane denied that Pershing would depart without Mexico proving order.
