Hundreds of visitors arrive by train and fill hotels as the Diate Fair drew crowds surpassing previous records. Early arrivals yesterday and overnight filled lodging and boosted business across the city.
The annual exposition opens this afternoon at Traction Park with a two week program featuring French bird man acts, motorcycle events, a baseball game, and a 10 event feature slate. Officials expect a crowd larger than any previous fair, with hundreds of visitors arriving by rail yesterday and more expected today. Exhibits, livestock displays worth about 50000, and preparations along West Central avenue show a festive atmosphere as police regulate tents and street shows to keep parades clear and safe.
The poultry department reports strong interest as roosters corkrette ducks and more were shown amid a noisy cackle fest. Workers say entries have surpassed half of the expected total and more exhibits arrive today as the fair opens with nearly all departments represented.

In Tokyo Buddhists at the Hongwanji Temple pass a message to President Wilson urging friendship between Japan and the United States grounded in liberty and peace. Moishi, leader of the progressive party, says Japan must back authorities to resolve the California land issue. Jiji Shimpo notes talks on the California alien law and a new treaty with the United States may be proposed soon.
French aviator Pegoud attempted a two seat loop with a 156 pound sand bag as passenger ballast. He rose to about 8000 feet, then dropped and rolled over before regaining control and landing safely. He blamed possible weight or balance issues and planned a retry tomorrow.
