An urgent deficiency measure carrying 7.76 billion dollars was rushed through the Senate in a double quick time. The rapid passage sparks questions about process and fiscal impact as lawmakers push a large financing package with limited debate.
President Wilson signed the war tax bill amid little ceremony, adopting more than two and a half billion dollars in new levies for the year. Washington reports Lieut. G. P. Hiowe of the Boston medical officers reserve corps was killed in action September 28 while on duty with British forces in France. The adjutant general announced the loss today.
