Cars collided triggering a bridge collapse in New York City and Cleveland. The wreck caused the structure to plunge passengers about thirty feet to railroad tracks below. Rescue operations followed as investigators assess causes and casualties.

The American committee for Armenian and Syrian relief urges a $5,000,000 fund to aid 1,000,000 Armenians and Syrians in Turkey Persia and Palestine. A summary of the Armenian Syrian situation is sent to 126,000 churches and leaders. October 21 22 relief days proclaimed by Wilson.
William Howard Taft, head of the League to Enforce Peace, states England appears to be aligning with the plan after World War I. He cites Viscount Bryce's remarks as hopeful proof that British leaders favor postwar steps to prevent further calamities and suffering in Europe.
El Paso Texas October 3 Will I Watson former county tax collector of El Paso county was arrested in Kansas City on embezzlement charges relating to county funds during his term. His bondsmen asked to be released after an accountant reported a seven thousand dollar shortage in his accounts. The county commissioners named a successor as Watson left the area likely on a cattle deal. Watson long active in local politics.
German columns attempting to advance in the region east of Novo Alexandrovsk are checked by Russian forces, as czarist troops hold they line.
Reports from Petrograd say intense artillery duels north of the Somme and multiple riverfront actions. In the Novo Alexandrovek region German forces reportedly attempted to push through wire entanglements but were driven back. over 600 men, including officers, are among the more than 6,000 prisoners taken across three battles Saturday to Monday.
In Paris dated dispatches, combat reports say north of the Somme a violent artillery duel occurred as German forces attempted to advance from St. Pierre Vaast wood but were driven back by French fire and machine guns with prisoners taken. On the Struma left bank French Bulgarian counterattacks against positions won on September 30 were repulsed with heavy enemy losses. Serbian forces on Cerna reportedly advanced on western slopes near Kaimakealan, while naval gunfire and bad weather were noted on the left.
Field Marshal von Mackensen commanding central Danube forces in Pobrudja has ordered the evacuation of Silistria and Tartakai fortresses recently captured by Teuton Bulgarian and Turkish forces, according to a Rome dispatch to Wireless Press.
